Just a personal thing - I don't like leading lines in the foreground to force me 'into' the landscape, this forcing should come subconsciously to be more effective; and IMO the second crop does that with the clouds and the apex of land on the opposite side of the river/billabong.

Well, to go against the trend (if you can call two responses a trend)...
I prefer the first, as the 'beach' on the left provides a sense of location for the viewer (you have some idea of where you are standing when you are looking at it). I would however try to crop the front right from the scene, as I find this a little distracting.
Other than that, nice colour, and a good example of how one picture cropped in different ways can present quite different perspectives. Also a good example of how personal taste can vary considerably!

I'm with sheepie, number one does it for me. I like the context of the beach on the left, and I don't mind having the photographer take my hand and lead me into the landscape (visually speaking!!)

Hmmm, I can't decide....

I like the left hand side of the first one but I don't like the right side of this image (I find the little bit of land in the bottom right corner distracting).

The second sho fixes this but then you lose the left hand leading lines (which I like).

Just to aid your confusion I prefer #2 - it seems less distorted and lacks the distraction of the bttom right corner of the first one and the large area on the left. It seems more open and spacious.

#1 - why? Without technical this-and-that - I prefer it visually

I favour #1 because I feel it has greater visual impact.

The shoreline along the LHS leads your eye right into the pic, and I don't mind the slightly compressed look of the treeline at the back.

I feel this shot is better balanced than #2, which IMHO suffers because of the truncated shoreline at left.

Nice rich colour too, with those vivid reds and blues.

Unfortunately, I think the figures on the water (can't quite tell what they are) slightly detract from the image, because they are too small owing to the WA perspective.

But I'd be happy to own an image like #1.

i might try croppping out the wider one to remove the bottom right corner distraction. (it'll also bring it closer to the 12 x 4 inch AR.)

ok, well i couldnt crop down to 12 x 4 AR like the #1 is without losing the width, or losing one of the aspects , but i did crop a little bit of the left hand foreground out, and then clone out the distracting bottom right corner (im talking about #2).

Normally i dont do things such as cloning, but this is a multi image pano anyway so im already breaking my own preferences
