MHD, worth mentioning that there is an attachment to make your SB80DX work as a slave. I would start to trawl ebay for a cheap one if you are going that way

MHD - not to fan the flames yet again, but the Sigma 105 macro I recently "tested" seemed every bit as good as the Nikkor, at a reduced price. Built quality is not as bad as they've been reputed to be in the past.

Onyx, I am with you, I am very happy with my platinum band 105 Sigma, great quality and price. Also if they bring out the rumoured VR Micro Nikkors, I should take less of a hit on the Sigma.

Kipper - you can take macro shots handheld without VR, mind you VR would help

Yeah I guess but I need a fast macro lense to do it.
I've been using my Sigma Zoom lense with macro which is F4-5.6, so around 5.6 when it's in macro. Really need to get a Nikkor Micro or Sigma for the job.

Kipper is a hard guy! I tried to keep the "noise" down so I cut the other guy with his 70-200 (not our member), and let kipper has the 70-200VR first, otherwise will be next week for him as original allocation.

I have already ordered the following:

1- From 'RRS' - B150 Package for collared lenses (Focusing Rail & Slider) for Macro - back order approximately 3 weeks.

2- From 'Markins' - Tripod Base TB-30 for my 'Gitzo'. Should be leaving Seoul, Korea today.

Mounted between your tripod and ballhead, this Markins tripod base enhances stability and reduces vibration. Allowing to remove the center column, the tripod base reduces the weight of tripod, and especially, enables the tripod to get closer to the ground for macro photography.

You may as well buy your legs and head, as interest rates went up 25 basis points today, so on a loan of $200,000 monthly payment increase of $40. With more of the same to follow sometime this year .

60mm f/2.8D Macro = OR = 105mm f/2.8D Macro

Another wide angle prime (14/18/29/24/28/35mm)

85mm f/1.4 - wishful, most likely OOTB (Out Of The Budget)

I'd go the 50MM/1.4, I have it and love it. The other lense I want is the 105MM Macro/Micro. Not sure if anybody here has the 60MM Macro/Micro, not sure how useful it'd be. The 105MM seems quite widely talked about on here. Not seen many mention the 60MM.

Nikon AF 60mm f/2.8 can be used for head/shoulder portrait as well as micro/macro.

While the 50MM and 85MM primes are good for portrait work. Are there any other fast primes smaller than 50MM. Sometimes I like to take more than one person in a frame and the 50MM I find you have to be too far back to frame them in.

Birdie no it was brand new in the box incl GST in Brisbane. At this stage although I really want one I cannot justify the expense of a new lens Maybe later on you will hear from me
