The 2008 winners of the ANZANG Nature and Landscape Photographer of the Year Competition have been posted. If you drill down the links on the left of this page you'll see the winning and runner-up images in each section.

The flying humpback whale is quite something!

Thanks folks.

FWIW, the shooting data on my image: EOS 10D, 100-400mm IS @ 200mm, 1/200s, f/9, ISO 200 (manual exposure)
So a "lowly" 6 Mp camera can still produce useful images. 8)

The ANZANG print exhibition (which opens at the WA Museum in a week's time) will presumably also include some Highly Commended images as well as the Winners/Runners-up. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the collection!

Hey David, congratulations on your great image and first place. I also know Darran Leal, the runner up and to outdo Dazza is a great feat.

Dave,

Congrats, and well done.

And yes, some some great images there.

As you well know, and this is as good an example as we can see, the camera is but a tool: it still needs the operator with the vision and the skill to make the image happen, and that's where the skill and the vision of DaveB comes into the picture. Without that skill, and without that vision, this image would never have happened.

THAT is the factor that's important here.

Woo hoo!

It wasn't clear from the initial communications from ANZANG, but it turns out that not only did my "Elephant Seal Scratching" image win the Animal Portrait section, but two of my other images scored Highly Commended! One in the Animal Portrait section (a different image of the same seal), and one in the Black and White section (yes, one of my infrared gannet images).

The exhibition awards / opening ceremony in Perth last night was great. The images look great on the wall, and I got to meet some old friends and make a bunch of new ones.

Hi Dave

That's absolutely unreal! I'm really pleased for you and you deserve the success :D

Must be great to see 3 of your pics displayed on the wall, eh?

Congrats again!

Cheers

Michael

Thanks for that, Dave. There were two of my shots in the book, actually. One of the Northern Quoll and the other of a Pacific Baza feeding a chick.

I've seen your winning shot of the seal and am looking forward to seeing the two highly commended shots, too.

Cheers

Michael
