Poll: How often do you take photos?

Postby robert on Mon Sep 22, 2008 2:29 pm

I love photography, read about it all the time, check out this forum almost daily, and enjoy keeping up with specs and opinions on cameras and lenses other than my own.

I dont however take many photos. Mostly because I prefer landscapes and so only take shots if i get away. I do take some shots of my young son kind of regularly but my passion in photography is landscapes.

How often do you take photos...

Are you one of those people who will set up a still life/macro in the lounge room when you cant go outside just so you can create an image and process it? or maybe like Bob G and the Pt Cartwright crew (and some recent Sydney locals) who make the effort to go out when the rest of us are in bed!

Not nearly as often as I would like. Unfortunately life and commitments get in the way.

I voted the last one -- it is more often a long time between sessions.

I'm one of those odd people that is rarely seen without my camera... and yes almost every day I take photo's... although lately I've been making a concerted effort to sometimes leave my camera behind as it can have the effect of me unintentionally shutting others out... :)
The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but it's still on the list... ;)

I try & use the camera at least a couple of times a week.....even if it is some sort of still life set up inside. I would love to use it alot more, even on the way to work would be nice....if there were something even remotely interesting to photograph.

Would love to be be able to do the Point Cartwright thing (or similar)too.....once again, time & family seem to put the brakes on it.....at least this weekend we are going to Fingal for a couple of days, so might get some good shots......or not

I think the results would be stronger if the options were:

a) Too frequently.
b) As much as I would like.
c) Not enough.

:) :D

I am another one of these "Not enough" people, but probably average a couple times a month....

My usage is that varied that I could tick any of the boxes or none of them. Sometimes I'm out there many days in a row and other times the camera sits in its bag for weeks. As I mostly take nature photographs, it depends on what nature is around. In Summer, my backyard is a haven and so I use the camera much more often.

I was going to tick the "once a week, maybe" box but then I looked at my photo collection and there's ~10-20 entries a month for most months. Add in the cellphone photos that get filed under "misc" if I keep them at all and I think it's closer to every day. It just doesn't fell like it.

I think it's because I see the question as "how often to I go out specially to take photos" and that's not very often at all. But if it's "how often to I take a photo of some random thing", well, most days. I've taken to carrying the toy camera (waterproof Oly compact) everywhere because it's better than my phone camera.

Speaking of which, if anyone gets one of the neoprene pouches from RRS with their pano head and doesn't want it, I'd love another one - they hold the Oly nicely but my gf lost my one.

I almost always bring my camera with me whenever I'm going out casually. Have a nice small shoulder bag. Set the iso 400, AV priority and motodrive at the ready. Never know if I run into Jennifer Hawkins down the road :))

Not nearly as much as I should, although in the future I think I will use it more due to certain travels etc.

How do you take your camera around? In a backpack or bumbag?? I find it annoying in restaurants and things...

My 400D goes with me almost everywhere.... well depending on if my GF allows it... hahah

But I am currently taking photos almost daily, depending on weather and locations I find. I take gear to work and go from there... and the days I don't take I using my fingers to frame a photo.... and then come back and take it ;p

My kids call my camera 'the third child' so I must be taking more than I thought!

Recently work has also opened up some new doors to do more sports photography which is both unexpected and exciting!

At the motoGP, from leaving Adelaide, at the track, and back again, to the last night on the island, Thursday morning, through to Tuesday night, i fired off over 5,500 photos, with over 3,000 of them on saturday alone....... I cant wait for next year!

mm... got me thinking, probably too often !!!!
If I go out and don't have the camera with me, people ask me if I'm ok, or is my camera safe in the car, or just say 'something's missing' ...
Maybe I should start taking less photos,
or maybe that should be just less crap photos :) LOL

If you ever figure out how to only take good ones let us know!!
I've been having a bit of crisis lately not liking anything I have taken. My photos are definately better than a few years ago- maybe you expectations increase with your skills so you never quite get there! At least for landscapes- I am really happy with a few people/kid shots lately.
