mouse or tablet for post?

Hi all,
I am getting a little frustrated with the Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse when using it for post. I find it a little big and just not as smooth as I would like (I am using it on a black mouse pad).
What do you all use for your post? is there a particular mouse that is better than the rest for this type of work or is tablet's the way to go?
Interested in what every one uses.
Cheers,
Andrew

Andrew,
I've switched away from the Apple mouse to a Logitech, not much of a difference. I have also been considering a tablet but haven't done the switch yet. I'll be interested in the replies.

I find if I take a tablet, my mouse works better
(I use a logitech wireless mouse which is just fine).

I use both.
I find the tablet can't be beat for selecting a path, but is a real pain for selecting menu items. If I knew my keyboard shortcuts as well as I should, I would just use the tablet.

Post work I tend to use my tablet more than the mouse except for things like curve manipulation and selecting menu items.

for [ost work its bes to use a tablet a 6x8 is all you need
the stylus pen is lighter and the clicking mechanism is softer so after hours of fiddling youll be o.k
although the mouse does have its advantages like if you use the bezier curvetool a sensitive tool with a pen it's harder beause the pen slips on the smooth surface of the tablet
when i have to do bezier curve selections i use the mouse
stylus pen is great for cloning dodging burning and pretty muych 80% of photoshops manual actions
but one way to relieve this is to place a piece of paper ontop of the tablet to get more traction outof the pen so it feels more like a pencil gripping paper
useful trick

It may be jsut the Mighty mouse... I replaced mine with a Microsoft one. Just unconformable.
I have a tablet but have not invested the time to learn to use it properly..I think with time this could be a useful device.

Yeah could be... I find it uncomfortable as well and it just does not "slide" very smoothly.
Thanks for the replies everyone. Is there a particular tablet that stands out from the rest or are they all pretty much the same?
Cheers.

I use a Logitech MX Revolution, I would like to try a tablet, but the cost is prohibitive. I agree with Wendellt though, it would seem logical that the tablet will feel better for most post work.

I use both an Apple wireless mouse (the so called single button one) and an Intuos 3 tablet. It practice I find I use the tablet mainly for detail work, although there was a period when I used it for everything.

you can get away with a cheap tablet
the intuos wacom system just offers better tilt and tip pressure sensitivity but ive seen $100 clone tablets that do the same thing
as the more expensive wacoms

I just got the same mouse. I love it. I used to use a graphics tablet a few years ago when i was doing media work for a mine, but i never really got it. I think it might have something to do with the one i was using. I don't think it was a very high end one, and in the end frustrated the hell out of me so i ditched it.
I'd love to try one out now and see if the technology is better.

I would recommend the Wacom Fun Bamboo 6X8 only around $230 when I got it. You also get a mouse to use on it...

Looks like it might be worth investigating a tablet.
Soounds like they might take a little getting used to but once you get the hang of them could be useful.
How are they for just normal menu type functions (ie: selecting and running actions in Photoshop etc...)? Piro mentioned this may be an issue, can you use the tabelt and the mouse at the same time?

Yeah you can use the mouse and the tablet at the same time. Just put the stylus/pen back in the holder and use the mouse

I use the Bamboo mouse and Tablet can't use both on the surface at the same time. However I also have Microsoft mouse plugged in for more accurate things like games
