Online Proofing site/application

Postby W00DY on Fri Nov 14, 2008 2:56 pm

Hi All,

Not sure how many might be able to help on here but thought I would post this anyway. I am looking for an online proofing / cart application/software to display client images. Currently I use Zenfolio and whilst they have a cart function it is only in USD so not really that great for me.

I have been looking at a few different options (Photo Cart, Red Cart, Pick Pix etc...) but they all just lack something?

I was wondering if anyone knew of an Australian service that offers this? I have googled till my fingers bleed but can't find anything (other than C41 LAB but as I use The Edge I am not interested in this one).

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

I use Lightroom Galleries http://www.lightroomgalleries.com/index.php LRG 3 Complete Gallery that exports out of Lightroom. It's very simple once you have figured out the directory structure on your website.

Although I don't use the functions ( I use it as a simple gallery ) it has ordering / payment functions etc. Best of all it's free, although the developer would like a donation if you like the software.

Check it out, it might be what your after

Hi Woody,

I love our Pickpic cart - what does it lack that you are after? For doing our own print fulfillment it has been fantastic! We have the one off software fee and then just the ongoing bank merchant fees, and hosting + SSL certificate.

Drop me a line if you want to chat more about pickpic.

Thanks for the link Woka, looks kinda interesting, will check it out. Not sure it will be "professional" enough for me but then I have only just glanced at it so should not pass judgment :)

Hey Jonathan - Firstly, I get a "403 forbidden" error when trying to click on your link?

It is not so much what it lacks I am just not convinced it is worth the $1.5k to setup. Photo Cart is only about $400 and it seems to do the same thing (just not as visually appealing). Also the fact they don't host it (like most) means you then also have to add about $30 p/m for web hosting and also be limited by bandwidth ( I like to leave my client images up a little longer than most.

Not knowing anything about it would it be worth looking into setting up my own web server and hosting it myself? (looking for advice from web gurus on this one).

I guess I was just hoping to find something like this in Australia. I a little over sending my money overseas all the time :)

Try my above link again I sorted it out.
My hosting doesnt cost me much at all because I have a cheap reseller account over in the states which I divide up between other people I have hosted on my account so it ends up costing me very little. I also have a huge bandwidth and size allocated to my website :)
