How much does it actually cost to replace a shutter ? I would have no clue but people see it as the death of the camera ? Surely not.

Darren, not really sure though I have $300 for a D70 in my head, no doubt more for pro cameras, I am sure someone here will have experienced the pain.

That sounds somewhere around the mark.

Given the actual current value of a D70, the question of whether that's now a viable repair option comes into play.

One might also presume that the cost for the same job on any other body would be similar, and thus, for an out of warranty repair on something like a D40 or D60, the option of just buying a replacement body might be a better choice.

wow, 3 million clicks on a D300, when did the D300 come out nov/dec 07? that equates to...a crapload of pictures per day....~8200 per day  - he/she must have a sore finger...

Judging by the fact there are quite a few camera models with apparently bogus high readings, I think the relevance of that site isn't that high.

JMHO - I mean who would get 8 million actuations out of a camera :?:

The sample size is pretty small for most of the cameras I looked at, the D70 seemed to have a quite a few (few hundred) however recalling 1st year statistics your gonna need a lot more than that to get a reasonable level of confidence...arrgh enough.. I will be thinking of bell curves for the rest of the day now... :D

The shutter on my D70s crapped itself with less than 2.5k actuations, it was outside warranty so Nikon Aus charged me over $500 to fix it. I was not impressed to say the least!

interesting read, my old D50 was still going strong at 70,000 actuations when I sold it second hand, the people I bought it off said nikon rated it to 25,000. Haha, it seems i took care of it
