slides through a hand held slide viewer

I experienced viewing slides (photo positives) from the mid '20s till the late 60's on a hand held slide viewer yesterday and I must say it opened up a whole new perspective for me.

Being a "Child" of the digital age, this was fascinating, especially with the apparatus used (hand held slide viewer) and the colors and 3-D effect you get. Make me wonder what we are losing out on. Granted digital is cheaper as there is no film, but I think there is a quaint charm in holding the slide and popping them in to the projector.

Just thought I'd share.

Cheers
Mak

Mak,

That is certainly a different step back in time. The variety of handheld slide viewers was quite large, from simple units that you would hold up to any available light, through battery powered units, into mains powered units.

And of course, the lightbox would permit you to view many slides at once, as well as sort them into viewing order, prior to loading them into a slide projector magazine.

Because of the the depth of the viewing experience, these provided the viewer with a very different experience from that afforded by a slide projector.

Both were good, but very different methods of viewing the same media.

Thanx for sharing your experience; it's a greatly appreciated reminder of where we've come from.
