Ok, someone wants to buy something off me in this forum, so I am wondering, being a total noob at selling things, what are the important things that I need to do and check? Please put down EVERYTHING because I really have no idea on what to do...

- Write in clear simple language, what you are selling
- State the condition of the item you are selling (new, mint, excellent, good, etc..), list all damages including severe noticeable cosmetic scratches and dents.
- With those above in mind, photograph your item. Photograph any damaged parts if exist.
- Do a research how much the item is worth right now as new
- Estimate the price according to its condition (new - 98-100%, mint 85-90%, excellent 70-75%, etc...) *these figures are just reference ballpark figures, actual values can vary*
- Decide the method of payment you will accept (cash, bank transfers, paypal)
- Ask for the price
Transaction part
----------------
- Wait for response of buyer
- Confirm the sale of item
- Complete the transfer of money
- Once money is received on full amount, make shipping arrangement
- Pack the item nicely so it wont get damaged on its way
- Ship the item (make sure you use some tracking available service if you shipping high value items)
- Wait for buyer to respond

And don't take paypal.... unless you know exactly what you have to do to avoid being ripped off by them (and bearing in mind their ripoff fees). Just take cash on delivery if local or bank deposit.
I've bought over this forum, always by bank deposit, some reasonable value items (ie $1100 lenses). Equally the sellers have had a good rep, or know people I know so I think the ripoff factor is quite low in that regard.

Which is precisely why we have our membership restrictions in place, and why those restrictions apply to the For Sale section, and why we do not tolerate any person attempting to sell something in any other section of the forum.
While there is no way that anything can be guaranteed by us - the admins and
mods - we do believe that the restrictions we have in place help to reduce the possibility of something going wrong.
