Hi guys!
I'm in the process of getting a D70 should be here in the next couple of days. It's my first plunge into DSLR. I own an F90X and F70 backup. Looking forward to using the D70 and even more to the D200 when its released sometime this year, I hope!
I'm wondering if anybody has the 3year Mack World Wide warranty for their D70?
I'm also interested in getting the Expodisc - supposedly the bees knees in accurate white balance calibration. Anyone used it? I wonder how it compares to just using a grey card?

I have the Expodisc, but still learning.

Other members also use it and swear by it.

I use the poor mans expodisk, the pringles lid...

I dont leave home without it, getting the WB right redices the amount a PP (and hence noise) dramatically!

I'm using an Expodisc now and i reckon it's great. However, in very low light the D70 seems to have a hard time getting a good WB, unless i poke the lens almost on the light source. But otherwise the expodisc is fantastic.,

I have Mack warranty on some of my lenses issued by the supplier in Australia. Cost was included in lens price. To register, you use the above website, and it is an easy exercise. With e-mail confirmation for your records.

Expodisc - I can not help with information on this product. I will be examining this product at Birddog's base in about 2 weeks time.

Repairs
International Service Center

If you are outside the United States and need to have your equipment serviced under your Mack Camera Extended warranty, please follow these instructions for obtaining service. Repairs must be completed at a manufacturer authorized service center in your area.

1. Send an email to: International Service Center Request – international@mackcam.com

Provide your MACK Camera Extended Warranty number
Briefly describe the problem you are experiencing with your equipment
2. Mack Camera will email an authorization number for the repair

3. You will recieve an estimate for the repair from the service center.
To avoid delay in having repairs approved, please forward the detailed estimate to our warranty department either by e-mail at international@mackcam.com or fax at (973) 467-2590.

The estimate should include a detailed description of what will be repaired, including part numbers and the reason for the repair. YOU MUST HAVE MACK CAMERA APPROVAL ON ESTIMATES PRIOR TO ANY WORK BEING DONE.

Per the terms of the warranty, customers will be reimbursed for repairs on manufacturer defects only.

I knew all this from Mack Warranty in the US and I had them in the past with some of my lenses, no doubt, they provide International warranty claims, my question is:
- Do they have a local office here?
- Have anyone experienced with Mack Local (International) extend warranty in the past?
- By the way the repair is done in Australia or other countries, will Mack willing to pay the cover as it provides in local currency.
- This way is quite complication when you lodge the claims with non US currency and wait for approval, same as when you receive the cheque payment (reimbursement) in what form? US dollars or Local currency? Cashier check (Bank Cheque) or Comapny Cheque from Mack Warranty.
Do you know how long to get the fund cleared from foreign bank account if it's not an International Bank Draft?
- So you have to pay for your repair first and wait for three months to get your money back, I'm sure Mack warranty won't send you an International Bank draft, I've been down that road before and finally I paid my repair and get the reimbursemnet check from Mack Warranty cashed from one of my US bank account. I don't want to weight in the loss and gain on the daily exchange rate.

No: Mack Camera & Video Service do not have an office in Australia.

Then again, I do not expect my excellent quality Nikon lenses to be faulty during manufacturer, and will not have to use the Mack Extended Warranty. The other thing is that if something does go wrong, it is better to have some sort of cover rather than nothing with grey product.

If that's the case then you can go with the local Extend Warranty service providers, you can deal direct with them in Australia and don't have to pay anything if it's at the manufacturer's faults or defective products.

I hate to say this: I never see any good from o/s extend warranty providers, it wasted my times a lot and frustated in waiting game and non sense questonaires prior to get their approval, apart from it they first asked me to provide the estimate repair bill in US dollar, I rang them and said, we do not use US dollars as our monentary overhere. They finally sent me the Mack Camera & Video service Cheque, I went into the bank and they said will take 8-10 weeks for clearance, finally I deposited it into my US bank account via Airmail and it took 13 days with cleared funds including Airmail to Fountain Valley branch, SoCAL.
