To give away sticky thread?

Postby Raskill on Mon Jan 05, 2009 5:56 pm

We all have things to give we dont use, whether it be those card holders that come with sandisks, the recovery software, lens covers, straps, software, books, computer peripherals etc etc.

Perhaps we could have a 'to give away' sticky thread, similar to the 'for sale' thread. Anything listed is for free (save the cost of postage).

I think I'd rather give stuff away that throw it in the bin if someone has a use for it. Think of it as this sites 'green e-cycling' !

Anyone have an opinion?

Would be good if we could have a sort of "Bin" where we could place anything we have to give away and the person that wants it can get it out of the bin so that at any time you can look at the list and see what's available.May be a bit hard to implement though, we'll also need to keep an eye out for greedy people though :)

Only if we could make this available to members who has access to the 'for sale' section of the forum?

I'm keen. Although no-one has yet taken me up on my generation 1 Canon-mount lensbaby. Odd, that.

{edit} well, ok, NOW someone has taken me up on the offer. No more lensbaby!

What about this?

Due to latent NAS I have found it hard to throw out the Golden caskets that once housed my 17-55 2.8 lens and D70s body that were stolen in 2007.

I also vaguely remember someone once putting a Nikon Lens BOX on E-bay but could anyone here actually need such things?

I have a heap of odd-sized (and I do mean ODD-sized) lens caps (and some body caps) so I'd be happy to offer them up for postage costs. Probably will only fit old manual focus lenses, and too many to list, but anyone interested can just PM me and I'll check sizes. :)

ETA: I should have mentioned that the vast majority of these are push-on caps from really old cameras/lenses; there are only about a dozen or so clip-on caps, and another dozen or so body/lens rear caps. No Nikon body/lens rear caps either, sorry.

Must be the recession that is stopping people snapping up these bargains!!! :cough: :cough:

I think I will stockpile my boxes until the WFC is over...or pass on to deserving people here maybe!

I'm wondering if it is so second hand stuff can be passed off as new, maybe for gifts or whatever. I'm selling my 420EX and the missus has thrown the box away - can make quite a difference in price if everything is there.

So if anyone has an empty 420EX box ...............

I would imagine it is something to along those lines. I have kept all my gold boxes just in case I want to sell some of my gear later on. Lets not mention that I like the look of the gold boxes

I've given this some thought, but I'm not convinced that it's needed.

In terms of just the one thread, I don't think it would work. Each item, to my mind, needs a separate thread. Otherwise we end with a very long thread in which items of interest get lost. That sounds counter-productive.

So, that means a separate section. Many would argue that we already have too many sections, and while I tend to agree with that thought, I have trouble deciding which sections to remove. Thus I need to be convinced of a need for a new section.

With that in mind, we do already have the For Sale section, and I'm having difficulty understanding why a post in that section cannot be made when appropriate.

If the item is free, then say so in the subject line.

So ... if you still disagree, please convince me otherwise.

It's your site mate, just wanted to know what was happening.

I thought it would be good to have it modeled on the FM 'free, nada, zip' thread, but as you point out, that can get a bit long, as it is up to 84 pages now (or there abouts).

I think that proves that point. :)

Now, convince me as to why we might need a separate section. :)

Food & Drink section is very under-utilized, take it off and put a freebies sub section under bargains.

:agree:

The idea of the 'to give away' section seemed to get a good response from the members, and 'food and drink' doesnt see a lot of posts. I think the idea of having a separate section for it would make it easier for members to find, I bet we all have a fair bit of stuff we can give away after all. IMHO.
