Info from Sandisk

Postby devilla101 on Wed Mar 18, 2009 5:51 pm

Hey guys

I recently purchased an Extreme III 30mb/s 16gb CF. Upon receiving the item I thought it was a fake since a few details were missing such as hologram on the front, the wording "For Professional Photographers" and also a few small discrepancies from the back. When I got the pack out it only contained the card itself, Sandisk Manual, a mini flyer with serial telling you where to download the RescuePro software and also NO pouch. Regardless I opened it and examined the card and it looked genuine. Read/Write speed in the camera and transfer of images seemed 'normal' and like my other faster Sandisk Cards. Anyway I contacted Sandisk and sent them photos of the suspect item and they came back with this:

"Thank you for contacting Sandisk Tech Support.
I have analized your pictures of the card along with the serial number and it’s FINE. The hologram is not mandatory and we have introduced this year new model of Rescue Pro software with no CD.

Best Regards
XXXX
Sandisk Technical Support

Anyway I thought I would share this little info just in case someone else came across Sandisk new packaging and content and thought it may be a fake (Always worth checking though).

Thanks for the info, That should make it easier for them to make fakes...

I hope Tech support did not really "analize" the pictures. Still..funny things go on at some workplaces

I registered my ducati cards on their website to be sure that I did not get fakes (I really didnt need to but I did because that facility was available). Maybe you should do the same.

Can you throw up some shots of yours? I grabbed one off the net, not expecting it to be legit or even turn up, and it turns up today, and i suspect its not legit, spoke to a few people and we are all believing the same thing, be interesting to compare what you got and what i got....

Ron

If that's your mobile number on the second image you might want to think about removing the photo just in case it leads to phone spam

That looks identical (other than mine is 8GB and yours is 16GB) to the one I bought from Stu at Quality Camera last year. Even though mine did look quite different from earlier ones, I never doubted it was genuine as I trust Stu.

Good post, interesting move that they have made, how do you find the card?
Lots of goodies really, lets just say my lenses stretch from 10mm to 500mm with plenty of light at 5fps ;)

Thanks for this Devilla.

I have found that if it's too good to be true, you are probably getting a fake. Like $30 for a Sandisk 8gb type 2 card SDHC... It still works fine on my LX3 though. No complaints.
