Hi Geoff, a minimeet sounds like a great idea, May is a bit tight for me with a gun show next weekend in Sydney, then for a change I will be in Melbourne 23/24 May for a big gun show, but I think this could be a good exhibition.

As a thought, the library is open till 8pm on Thursdays, and on this coming Thursday Mark Dadswell, who has a winning image in the exhibition, will be speaking to the exhibition. That's at 6pm, and cost is PP10 - bookings needed.

I'm thinking dinner apres exhibition.

But either Thursday 14 or Saturday 16 sounds like a pissibolity to me.

If it's Saturday, my wife can attend, so naturally that's my preference.

I saw last year collection in Brisbane and despite the fact they were all very good pictures, I felt quite depressed. Later I found that I was not alone with that feeling for the people I talked to and had seen them were in the same boat. In fact, one of them lamented the influence that old Rupert (News Limited) exercises on the press and therefore on the images published by the World Press.

Well,

That sounds like a decision then.

Time of day? Closing time at the Library would be 5, I think, which means probably about 3:30 for the exhibition.

Given the locale, perhaps a wander around the Bot beforehand? And munchies at the Quay afterwards?

I would not blame Roopie for that at all. The very nature of much of press photography is such that they are frequently and mostly capturing major events, which, by their very nature, could be sad/shattering/depressing. Good news rarely warrants a mention, let alone a front page photo.

A few years ago I viewed an exhibition at the Getty in LA, and it was such a powerful experience that it just mentally knocked me out. This was a room full of Pulitzer Prize winning images, but there weren't too many happy-snaps amongst them.

Several Capas, and a couple of Ellisons though.

So, who is up for this, tomorrow?

2pm at the gardens? Which entrance?

3:30pm at the library? Meet on the main steps?

5:30 for dinner at The Quay?
