Does the Horseman have a sports finder? My thinking is that it's a Speedgraphic, because of that feature, but I'm happy to be corrected.

I thought you were going to pick on the hand holding technique on the left hand side.

...... the small white patch on the top of the camera, to the right, is a bit of a tape, part of the camera, ???????

Said camera is more like a Speed Graphic, but I am sure over the years there has been various copies of this classic and from the rear view it is hard to pick....... would like to know

The sports finder I must admit is very Speed Graphic, the left side of the camera, second shot, shows the flash bracket very much like some of the old speed graphics....

....... some of the old models

Greyish part, on the camera body (top)? Hotshoe?

Bright white section, on the dark slide? Looks like a part of the film holder or DDS.

My thoughts exactly.

I'm also curious as to why this would be in use, today, in such a scenario. It's clearly a 4x5 in use in a field situation. Very bloody unusual.

I remember reading about a photographer who was a little jaded (and also owned a photo library, so could indulge his thoughts) who had moved to a Speed Graphic for of all things, the Olympics. He also was getting lots of work because of the unique look of the images. May be a trend or the same guy

......... maybe now is the right time to dust off the "Speed Graphic", check the lens and go back to work......

The handholding technique might not matter because the shutter may be clicking up to 7 per second!

Guy with the big camera looks like he know what he's doing. Just the fact he got front seats to photograph the obama says something I suppose. Maybe he wants to enlarge it to billboard size? Could a high range (say 1Dmk3, D3X NOT the phase3 etc) camera with the 20 megapixels odd, manage to produce an adequate enlargement for a billboard?

I'm told he shoots Canons and Leicas. His website also shows some 6x7 shot in Kosovo.

photopotamus,

Pete has some cracker images in this gallery. Thanks for the link! I wonder whether some of those are setup or candid. Either way they are great.
