I have been looking for ways to store my filters (both screw in and square) more efficiently and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions?

For screw in filters I have heard of people stacking them and then buying caps for both ends, anyone know where you would be able to buy such caps???

I have no idea how to store 3-4 square cokin filters other than in their rather bulky boxes..anyone have any ideas?

You should be able to get generic caps off an auction site, I would have thought.

For the Cokin - you can get boxes that hold a number (up to 10, perhaps). They are somewhat bulky and the lid is liable to fall off if thrown about a camera bag. In the absence of that, you would need to look at some process where you hold them closely together with tissue or similar paper betwix them. Maybe tissue paper, rubber band and a ziplock bag with a silicon bag therein?

I have a set of end caps you a welcome to if you want them. Of course, they are for 49mm filters. Are they the right size???

I found they worked well, except with a POL filter in the middle, then it was difficult to unscrew.
If you are having trouble getting them - they used to be available at EVERY camera store - but they are an old idea & may not be available anymore. - you could just get an extra couple of el cheapo filters & put them at the ends; or even some lens caps.

I also had one of the Cokin 10 filter boxes. It worked well except for the need for a rubber band to hold it together. Reschsmooths' idea of cardboard separators & a rubber band would work almost as well IMO

These days, I just carry a CPL, and use the original hard case for it.

for my round filters, I use a Lowepro filter pocket, got one a few years back for around $20. I works quite well for me.

I have to admit that I have never seen the filter ends in a camera store...maybe VanBar will have some..Thank you for your offer Greg, unfortunately I do not have any 49mm filters. At the moment I keep my 77mm C-Pol and my 67mm C-pol in their boxes as well, but if I was to get a R72, a star cross and maybe some coloured filters (for B&W) I would get into trouble as well. I am also thinking of getting some more stepup rings as well.

As for the Cokin filters I really only carry 2x ND, and 3 assorted portrait ones (only which I use one) but I may be ditching the portrait ones so I may just keep the hard cases for now.

The only filters I have are diopters for using in dome ports underwater and one polariser. The poloriser lives on one of my lenses and the diopters live in the plastic boxes in which they came.

Thanks Leon, I have looked at those before, but even the Maxwell (the guys who bring in Cokin) rep could not tell me how big that was. Can you tell me if it is much bigger than the plastic containers that the filters come in??? this may be able to clean up my Cokin filters....

I have not considered that, but that would be too bulky and unnecessarily large IMHO so it would not suit my needs unfortunately. An interesting idea, esp if you use X-Pro series cokins...

I've definitely heard of people using CD carriers for the unmounted filters.

The filter wallet I use for my polarisers (a Domke Filter Organizer) doesn't seem to be available any more, but if you're only carrying one or two filters I find the B+W translucent cases (you can buy spares) to be quite good. The plastic cases that Hoya filters come in do not do much to protect the filters from dust when bouncing around in your bag.

As for filter caps, there are a few available [B&H].
