Photoshop and NEF files question.

When I open NEF files in PS7 ---File/File Info/Caption--the Exif data is not always shown.

I shot 41 NEF's on a 512 card and all showed Exif in Captions.

I formatted the card and shot another 41 NEF's and the Exif data is missing in Captions.

I am unable to find a reason for the missing data.

Any help would be appreciated .

Rodger.

When you say missing in Captions is that a component of PS 7 (I have PS CS) or do you mean Capture (as in Nikon Capture)?

Hi Rodger

Not sure myself what you mean. When you go to file-file info a window comes up with
Description
Camera 1 Data
Camera 2 Data
Categories
History
Origin
Advanced

The EXIF data is normally under Camera 1 Data :!:

Chris,

This is the type of data shown in Caption.

Nikon : D70
Focal Length: 6mm
Optimize Image: Custom
Colour Mode; Mode11 (Adobe RGB)
Noise Reduction:Off
White Balance: Preset
Tone Comp: Normal
etc

When I take another series of shots "Caption"is empty.

I must be doing something stupid, but I am unable to pin it down.

It may be the way you download the images to your hard drive. If you drag and drop from "MY COMPUTER" you may be leaving the EXIF behind. If you use NIKON TRANSFER then you probably will get all the EXIF to stay with the images.

Now this has got me really confused! I am using PSCS on a macintosh and when I go to file-file info I get what I listed in my last thread.

I have checked the books and also the online help and can find no reference to caption. When I go into file info it opens immediately and when I go down to Camera 1 it shows Nikon, D70, aperture, speed etc., the kind of data you have listed under caption!!!

So, as you can see I am really confused. Rodger, are you working on a PC or Mac?

Never fear, there is an answer out there, somewhere

Try this...in PS go to FILE/FILE INFO/ADVANCED/EXIF

Does that reveal more info?

Chris and Matt,

I am using PS7.

The attachment shows what I see when I go to:

File/File Info/General.

Regdor - OK - gotcha, I was looking in PSCS. I opened a NEF file through PS7 that I know has EXIF data through PSCS and guess what! Nothing showing - at the moment I don’t know why but will try to find out.

OK. Try this...for PS7. FILE/FILE INFO/CLICK ARROW ON DROP DOWN MENU WHERE IT SAYS "GENERAL" AND SELECT "EXIF".
If still nothing try below
...in NIKON TRANSFER click on the tool icon and check that box that refers to EXIF.
Hope this helps.

Matt,

"Hello Houston,the Eagle has landed"

You are a genius!!!!!!

Transfer Options/Transfer/Copy Shooting data........to the IPTC caption field.

Many thanks for your help.

Rodger.
