Battery Upgrade for D300

Postby Flatpick on Mon Jul 27, 2009 2:25 pm

After using th D3 for a good while now I was very dissapionted at the frame rate when dropping back to the D300, so the EN-El3a had to go and in went the EN-EL4a. WOW! did that camera come alive, I reckon it's right there with the D3 now, I'm guesing 8 frames to the second easily.
I know that some will come on and say the same result can be obtained with the 8 AA's, I found that not to be the case, I was not happy with my trial with the AA's.
Drag racing needs a very high frame rate to capture the antics drag cars get up to in the short space of time the cars run, I highly recomend going in this direction to any of the motor sport tog's hovering around this site, I'll garantee it will put a smile on youre face, it did on mine see...... :D :D :D

What sort of AAs were you using Fred?

I have two sets of batteries from Jeff Servass purchased especially for this purpose, and used exclusively so. High speed, and 2000 shots per charge.

I use either 8x Sanyo Eneloops or 8x Inca 2700s and get that blistering 8fps until the batteries go flat, but shooting RAW is a different matter. PS if you shoot TIFF then you retain 8fps!

Yeh... Powerex Gary, I buy all my battery's from Servass thanks to the info from this site, in my opinion the D300 is right up there with the D3 now. I will one day get to on of youre meeting's and will gladly hand over battery cover and EN-EL4a to D300 owners present to try, IMO it does a better job.

Tried both today. ENEL4a and AA grip, sorry couldnt feel any difference in shooting speed? New D300 too, started at DSCN0001 ended 697 shots later :)
