i have 2 stupid questions...
1. i just want to confirm that this lens will meter off the d700.
2. is aperture controlled via the lens itself or by the camera.

thanks.

i shot with this the other day on a MkII and i was blown away. i'm seriously thinking of getting one.

Rooz...you have too much money!

I am sure it will be able to be programmed as a non-CPU lens into the camera so you can get metering information for this lens.

As for the second question....aperture control...well if it is AIS spec then it will have an aperture ring, from memory there is an option to control the aperture from the ring that you can select on the D700 (but I am not sure about this one)

lol
i'm going to try and borrow that zeiss for a while if i can to get a good feel of using it. honestly though mate, i'm just looking for a few ways to get rid of my 24-70. i dont like using it at all and would like a smaller, more compact fast prime.

i havent used MF glass since my canon film days so i dont know if i can live with it day to day anymore; thats my main worry. maybe, just maybe nikon may give us a 24mm prime that will AF and give me exactly what i want !

I am sad to hear that you do not enjoy the 24-70 but I guess it is each to his own. I still find I use my trusty Tamron 17-50 more often (size/weight) but the 24-70 is a joy to use when I do use it.

A nice 24mm would be pretty high up on my list of things for NIkon to give us....AF-S 24mm f/1.8 (please!) something like that would sit permanently on my D60 (I still have not solved my lens dilemma for that camera...but I am thinking the 10-17 fisheye will get a work out on it for now...when it comes back).
