Hi
Just wondering what the current thinking and places to purchases compact flash cards.
I was thinking maybe 8gb or 16gb .I always preferred 4gb cards but I think these are too small now .I mainly shoot motorsport and the D700 can handle 8pfs and so I guess a fast write speed is important.
What do you guys suggest?
Thanks
Jeff

Check out this site mate, very good prices.

Personally, unless shooting RAW for a wedding of corporate gig ( ) then I would be using smaller cards mate. I'm a firm believer that putting all your 'eggs in the one basket' 16 gb card is asking for a failure that will cause you to loose all your images.

I still use 2 gig cards, they are cheap and you can fit a couple of hundred images on them.

Sooooo, you have a D700? Chicks will dig you now mate

Thanks mate . I tend to agree about the size of the cards . I do only shoot raw so I think 8gb would be OK.
Don't know about the chicks bit, alright for you young guns ,but old farts like me I don't think so.

And I always thought lens size mattered...

Now I find out that it's not about card size either! :?

:biglaugh:

I've been going about this all wrong!

It is easier to back up a 4Gb card to a DVD than an 8Gb card. :)

This site is very very keen on pricing -- www.itstuff.com.au

I recently ordered about $600 of stuff from them - Educational Lightroom + CS4 Design Premium & an 8Gb Sandisk MicroSD card + 16Gb SD card for a mapping GPS.

All was dropshipped from Ingram Micro in NSW so should be genuine for my order.

The way that certified computer nerd do it is this:

http://www.staticice.com.au/

Basically its a search engine for all the computer stores Australia wide. Type in the component you want and it goes looking for you. You can narrow the search down to your home state if you wish.

A search on " 8gb 300x compact flash" will give you this result:
http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/sea ... ash&spos=1

You can find the Transcend and the Lexar 300x 8gb cards (which is what I use) for under $130.

I saw them and thought.....*drops head in shame*....wow!!! Looks like my treasured Extreme Ducati's are no longer the fastest. Wonder if they will bring out another firewire reader to utilise that extra speed, and what cameras will be able to use that speed.
