different I suppose.

would a red (or any color really) camera be a problem with photos taken close and light reflection off the camera onto the subject?

It's for real. The original link above says there are 100 colour combinations including fuschia pink + yellow + lens colours.

It's obviously for people who want to be inconspicuous

I hear that they're going to rebadge one as a Canon, in white, of course.

Also nikon has started a silver lens tradition... Perhaps these goons will follow.

That being said, I have a silver canon...... it was a silver bullet some time ago.....

Pentax has been making silver lenses a lot longer than they have been making White or Red DLSR's

Pentax lens range

surenj wrote:... I haven't noticed these in sporting events before. WIll keep a look out for them.

I can't say I have ever seen one either. Pentax don't have a camera with fast enough fps for most sports shooters. The just released K-7 only shoots at 5fps, not competitive with the D300/D700 at 8fps. Their lens quality is highly regarded, from what I've read on the Pentax forum, their 'Limited' glass is up there with the best from Nikon and Canon. But seeing as many Pentax shooters (myself included) buy Pentax because they offer great bang for buck, I dont imagine they sell nearly as many Pentax lenses per Pentax camera as the big 2 brands do.

Those are some nice looking lenses...and i agree when you say that Pentax glass is highly regarded, they have actually got a really good DX lens set ranging all the way into the telephoto range.

There's a statement being made with this camera, and to me, the message is not all that good.

I see Nikon's engineers working away at new sensor technology, and in doing so they help improve the photographic processes for all of us.

I see Canon's engineers working away at improving upon their sensor technologies, and introducing cameras with new and improved features that help us to make better images.

I see Olympus's engineers trying to bring some real meaning and purpose to the 4/3 market place, and with that, we get cameras that a better and help us to make better images.

But Pentax are just mucking around with adding a few bits of coloured plastic onto their bodies. They seem to have totally lost the plot, and it leaves me wondering if they have replaced their engineers with pre-school children.

I think this is a bit unfair Gary.
After all, both Canon and Nikon have camera bodies made with coloured bits of plastic too. They just use Henry Ford's paradigm.

It does say to me though, that they are going after the "Camera as Fashion accessory" market, rather than the "Camera as photography aid" market, which does not augur well for the future qualtity of their cameras, or lenses.

Yes, I have personal doubts about the "dress sense" of these cameras, but have you seen the outfits worn by young Japanese tourists? I give Pentax some credit for knowing their target market.

There is an enormous market in Asia for cameras such as this.

No one has offered it before so I reckon Pentax will do well with it. Good luck to them. They saw an opportunity to make money and they have taken a bet that it will work. No matter how hideous it looks to us, there will be a myriad of people who will want one, to look different.

I would never buy one.

Don't be to quick to judge and condem Pentax ,-----------when I upgraded from my 1st SLR to a Pentax "Spotmatic 11" on the 20/12/1973 I made the hugely controversial and radical decision and chose the ALL BLACK body model.

And they said it would never last.

Cheers Rick.
