Sigma 12mm to 24mm

Postby big pix on Wed Mar 16, 2005 2:39 pm

Dose anyone have or know about the Sigma 12mm to 24mm digital zoom. Is the quality ok or does it fall off at the edges as I am looking to buy one asap...........

Thanks

I am a big fan of both 12-24 lenses, really like them. You are unlikely to find light fall off at the edges due to the Sigma being a full frame design, and DX only uses the central portion. The Sigma is heavier than the Nikon and cant take filters, but has less distortion at the wide end. Ask any other questions you may have. I really like my Sigma 12-24

WOW  Glen, I've seen this shot on your little Avatar but I never saw the BIG VERSION. That is the best shot I have ever seen of the Coat Hanger.

How much for a 12-24 Sigy $$$$

Absolutly Brilliant Shot, I'd hang that one on my wall.

Well done.

Mic.

Thanks Mic, I was happy with it too (which is why I made it my avatar). The Sigma 12-24 is very nice and wide angle often enhances lanscapes. The Sigma is under a $1k, so you cant go wrong. Mic, you have inspired me, I think I will hang it on the wall. :D

Beeeeeaaauuttiiifuuullllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.

Hope you don't mind.

It feels like I'm taking a stroll right under it. I love that Bridge, I think it is the best designed Bridge in the world.

Mic you are welcome to use it as a background, I feel honoured. I also lifted it from that thread to use on the new notebook I got from Birdy on Saturday. I could photograph the bridge all day, such an interesting structure

G'day,

Dunno if it was me stuffing up (that's usually a given) but when I used a Sigma 12-24 recently I had very strong corners that were almost black when using the 12-24 wide open at 12mm, a small blue edge then pure black in the VERY corners... Had to crop the images... Used the 12-24 Sigma on a D70 and was really surprised...

Hmmm I must have stuffed up something...

Cheers,
Mudder

Maybe you forgot to take the cylindrical "lens cap adapter"* thingy off?

check on vignetting - could be from the lens hood, maybe incorrectly mounted?

G'day,
Digitor and Cricketfan, I think you guys must be right... I borrowed Dean's 12-24 and it had the flower shaped hood and a "collar" type of hood around that... Didn;t want to play with someone else's lens too much so I just left it as it was...

See, told ya I must have stuffed up...

Mate.... That's a bugger. I should have pointed that out. Still, at least with the wide angle there is a little room for a crop.

Cheers

Of course this wouldn't be a problem if it was the 12-24 DX Nikkor :D :D :D
