Which flash is better for a photography student?

I know that the SB800 vs. SB600 topic has been discussed to death but...

My girlfriend needs a flash for her photography studies at uni.

We were originally considering the SB600 as recommended by a nikon rep.
Then I read on this forum that the more fully featured SB800 is only slightly more and comes with a few extra goodies.

I kind of answerwed my question.

Anyway would a SB600 be adequate or should we just take the plunge and get the SB800.

Most people have gone for the sb800 to be sure, it is only $180 extra

I would think the SB800 has some nice features that a photography student would appreciate - go for it, you won't regret :)

It's a fantastic flash for a great camera and an (in my case anyway) average photographer.

Here's one of it's nice tricks it has up it's sleaves... (I don't think the 600 does this)

I'll echo the SB800 recommendations, especially for learning about all sorts of diff flash modes. (The 600 merely has TTL full auto or full manual, nothing inbetween).

Got the SB-800 yesterday.

Huge thanks to Birddog 8)

Been having some fun today mucking around with stroboscopic effects.

The photos turned out crap as a result of my limited photographic experience

Will post some pics when I get better.

I know you've now got your flash, but these got a big workout at the Jenolan field trip yesterday. It will be interesting to see what impact they had. Maybe some owners could comment.
