Calling anyone in Korea....

After today bumping (well, virtually) into a couple of other people (D70 users - even better! ) on the dpreview boards who are also living in Korea, I am organising a meet for sometime in April, probably sometime on the last two weekends...

If anyone else is going to be in the area, please feel free to join in. Not sure on the exact location yet - probably Seoul, but you never know, we might venture further afield... unfortunately I think we will just miss the peak cherry blossom viewing period (and it's all my fault - I'll be out of town... :| )

If you want to come along, pls PM me either here or on dpreview... oh, and I will be sure to recommend this fine forum to anyone who attends!!

Cheers,
Rae PS - Mods - I know this would normally be in the Shooting & Meeting Ideas section, but I thought overseas peoples might not visit that section on the assumption there was nothing going on in their area... pls move this if you disagree. Cheers.

Hi cyanide,

I'm not living in ROK, but I've visited there (Chin Hae + Seoul) a couple of times, and just missed the cherry blossom in Chin Hae both times! It must be quite speccy down there when they are in full bloom, the trees are prolific in the streets.

Cheers

Well done.

Please let me know as soon as you have the date sorted out, so that I can add this to our calendar.

Gary, maybe we need under Locales a Korea, Canada and America so that those coming to these forums from those countries can organise meets.

If you do go down this track, probably an "Asia" section to start with ...? Us Korean residents are few and far between ATM.... :)

Edit: Certainly, Gary - will PM details once they are decided.

Absolutely - I am hoping to catch a few blossoms even after I get back... 'specially as I will have my 60mm Macro by then... :D

The only time I've been to Incheon has been to get on a plane! I might not be the tour guide for the job, for that meet.... :D

Well lot of places around Seoul that you can do workshop,

Absolutely, Birddog. A wealth of options.

Inner city - some lovely old gates (Namdaemun, Gwanghwamun) and temples (Changdeokgung [aka Secret Garden], Gyeongbukgung...) and *plenty* of urban streets photography options... plus Namsan Park, Seoul Tower... even the foreign ghetto of Itaewon would make for some interesting shots. Then there's the riverscapes....

Further afield, I am sure there are plenty of great locations, I just haven't really looked at them through a photographer's eyes before. I will certainly have to revisit or explore areas, now I have my new toy....

Cheers

I used to come and visit my friends in Itaewon where the US 8th Army HQ is and went to the museum opposite the Joined ROK & US Armed Forces HQ.

Birddog,

If you (or any other members) had any reason to come across to Korea (caveat: before the end of 2005), it would be my distinct pleasure to catch up over a brew in one of the many salubrious extablishments in Itaewon. :D

And yes, the War Memorial is a fascinating place... many hours worth of exhibits, even if you think you wouldn't be interested in "war stuff". I was surprised.

The "War Memorial" is my favorite spot, I been back twice and went to the second level, near the Mustang P51 played with my "Birddog"

Just bumping this thread in case there are any recently joined members who are in Korea....

Date for the meet is still 30th, location is being fine-tuned at the moment but will be somewhere near Busan/Kyeongju area... a few hours train trip out of Seoul. We will try to get around to a variety of places eg temple, market, streets etc. (Walking shoes a must!!)

So far I think we have about 4-5 people, coming from different places around Korea, so it should be a nice-sized little group. Naturally, anyone and everyone would be welcome - just post here, email or PM me for further details.

Cheers
