Stolen D80 - 5.45 Manly-Circular Quay Ferry 30 Nov 2009

Hey guys,

Not sure if this will help but a good friend of mine had her Nikon D80 + 18-135mm kit stolen from her whilst we were returning to Circular Quay on the 5.45pm ferry (Freshwater). The camera is in very good condition, and contains a 1gb Toshiba SD card and the 18-135mm lens had its Lenshood attached, we still have the LC-67 lens cap though.

We must have both fallen asleep when the opportunist picked up the D80, all our other stuff was left untouched, including wallets, mobiles and my D300 (which I picked up today after another lengthy, and pointless, visit Nikon Australia).

The theft has been reported to the police, but if you come across a D80 fitting that description for sale please let me know.

We think (still trying to confirm) the serial number of the body is 6040380.

Thanks

Sorry to hear about this.

Hope you get some leads on the camera.

You are really behind the 8 ball lately.
Hope it turns up OK, or failing that, that it was insured
Wish her luck from us.

Thanks Gerry. I totally agree about this.

It certainly feels like i'm behind the 8-ball at the moment, unfortunately the camera is not insured (which reminds me i should get mine insured as well) so we have our fingers crossed that it will get picked up as it gets pawned off and them returned to us.

We do hope to get some leads but chances are not great, those ferries don't have cctv and it is far too easy just to ebay a camera

Hmm... How about posting the words STOLEN and the serial number in the internet in blogs, forums etc to try and increase the hit rate if a potential buyer accidentally checked or something? [I am grabbing at straws here, this is not an easy situation]

Was there any security video on the ferry?

Most of the ferries don't unfortunately, the police will check but chances are that the ferry we were on doesnt have CCTV.
