Questions on Nikkor 12-24mm f/4 DX IF-ED

Postby theK on Wed Mar 23, 2005 12:28 am

These questions are directed to owners, or anyone who's familiar with the above-mentioned lens.

Does the front part of the lens extend when zooming towards longer focal length (like what the 18-70 DX does)? Does the front part rotate when zooming?

I tried one owned by a friend once, but I forgot to check whether it extends or not when zooming.

Errr, sort of yes and no. The middle bit that contains the physical glass does, I think it extends at both ends as is retracted back furtherest when in the middle of the zoom range. The exterior of the lens doesn't change size - including the filter threads. They remain still always.

Thanks, Onyx. I know what you mean about the lens is at its max at its middle focal length. I've seen some other lenses that have similar construction.
