Manfrotto 190MF3 MagFiber Tripod

Postby W00DY on Fri Mar 18, 2005 4:00 pm

I have been reading about Tripods extensively today and I am impressed with what I have read about this tripod (Manfrotto 190MF3 MagFiber Tripod).

Adorama sell it for $405.00AUD delivered, which seems a good price.

&

B&H Photo have it bundled with the 322RC2 grip head for $519.00AUD

I rang Vanbar and they don't have any in stock but their price is $517.00.

Does anyone know much about the MagFiber tripods? I would like some feedback before placing an order (wish I could see one first though).

the magfibers are only new....

Maximum Height with extended center column 142 cm (55.9 inches)
Maximum Height 115 cm (45.08 inches)

that seems a little short to me?

It is small but the closed length of 56cm impressed me.

I am not that tall so I don't need a huge tripod. I also mainly want it for walking aroudn the city, hiking etc... So maybe smaller would be better for my needs?

Not a big response to this thread, probably becouse the tripods are only new.

I had a (quick) play with the 055MF4 MagFiber Tripod at Vanbars today and was very impressed (not hard to impress me though).

This one is bigger than the 190 and was pretty much perfect height for me.

Nice and light and the carry strap was comfy.

The 005MF4 is a bit more expensive ($480.00 from Adorama) but I think the extra 10cm will come in handy. The 005MF3 is another 10cm taller again (I think) so this might even be an option (of course this is more expensive again!!!)

IIRC, pluckaduck has a carbon Manfrotto 'pod - I'm not exactly sure which one, but it impressed the hell outta me. I'm a manfrotto fan through and through (I believe they have superior ergonomics to Gitzo's; Birddog will no doubt disagree ;))

Going from the model names, these sound like just CF versions of their ever popular entrylevel/mid-range 'pods - the 190 which I had before, and its bigger sibling the 055.

pluckaduck has the Man. 440 CF.
I can see lot of people from this forum loving the Gitzo than the Man. once they saw the completed set up of the Gitzo and compared side by side with the Man. legs.
The main problems here, people don't want to spend much $$$ on the leg so no other choice for them, they have to settle on the 190 or 055, to suit their budget.
If money is not an object, I believe lot people will go for the Gitzo CF legs instead of the Man.

This is true.

I am sure the Gitzo is the better set of legs but for my needs the Man will do fine. The cheaper I can get the legs for the better head I will be able to buy.
