gear gone.... anyone got a 70-200 they can lend me?

Postby dviv on Mon Oct 25, 2010 10:36 pm

Hi all,

Got home from work today and our house had been broken into and most of my camera gear is gone.

Bit of a problem seeing as I have a friend's wedding to shoot on the weekend.

If anyone sees the stuff in my sig for sale, wonder if it's mine. I'll try and find serials and post here when I do.

David

Serial Numbers - Will add more once I can touch receipts:
Canon 7D - 3814B009(AA)
Canon 40D - 0510221640(SE)
Canon 70-200mm F4IS - 228350
Canon 10-22mm - 37404288(6)
Canon 100mm Macro - 26501005

I hope you guys are ok. I have been broken into a few times and it feels kinda unsafe.

Don't have much but can drop off any/all my stuff on my way home on Friday.

Send me a PM.

Thanks Suren - You're a legend

I will let you know once I've spoken to the insurance company.

I've added a couple of lens serial numbers in the OP - will add more once I can get to receipts etc when the forensic guys are gone.

Dave,

Sorry to hear about this.

That really sucks, David.

I hope the insurance comes through for you and you end up buying better gear - so it at least has a bright side.

The other thing (although futile) may be to distribute these numbers to the local pawn shops/secondhand shops . [I doubt the thieves are local though]

Sorry to hear about your situation. It's most probably no consolation but even on the sleepy north coast we have our fair share of thieving drug addicted morons, plus the magistrates that keep letting these people back on the streets. Our church was burgled twice recently. Even honour among thieves has gone.

I hope everything works out for the better for you and the family.

Thanks for the sympathy everyone - it's much appreciated.

I have managed to secure a 50D and a 7D, plus some lenses, on loan for the weekend so should be covered for the wedding.

Will have to get everything together for the insurance company tonight *shudder*

David - that's just crap. I've been broken into once and I know how bad it feels. You keep coming home for a while wondering each time if they'll have robbed you again

Unlikely they will of course.

I hope you are all not too stressed by the event and wish you luck with the insurers.

Might even be worth posting back how good/bad your insurer was.

David,

Sorry to hear about the theft.

Sincerely hope that there will be a very positive outcome from your Insurer - Westpac.

This is one thing that crosses my mind every once in awhile, so I have taken the following measures at home. As I live alone, and all my camera equipment is kept in one room with bolts through the window and a deadlock on the door. Hopefully this will be a enough to keep the buggers out. Otherwise insurance will cover the loss, but it is the time taken to rebuild your kit, and get out shooting again.

David, I am in Sydney (Liverpool + Botany areas) for a couple of weeks and have my 24-105 lens with me. You are welcome to borrow it if you like for the wedding.

Thanks again guys, have been collecting receipts etc and will be submitting to insurance tomorrow.

There were a couple of jewellery items taken so we need to find valuations etc.

Thanks Ozi - I have managed to get a 7D with a 24-105 plus a 50D with 17-200 + 50 1.8 so should be covered - still tossing up whether to rent a longer lens (70-200)

Just need to buy a bag to put them in and possibly a flash before the weekend

Another kind soul has lent me a flash for the weekend :)

Only thing I don't have at the moment is a decent long lens. ie 70-200 of any flavour.

Any have one I can borrow for the weekend?

Thanks again for the sympathy guys - it helps!
