Truthfully, I knew on this board two guys have the Bigma:
Oneputt & skippy.

Oneputt is still the owner of the Bigma, Skippy got the Bigma since Dec 23 and at the Bobbin Head Pinic meet, after he tried the Nikkor 80-400VR, he ditched the Bigma and wrote a cheque for the Nikkor 80-400VR on the spot.
Apart from those, I tried the Bigma in few days but did not like it much, the 500mm is its advantage but slow and damm heavy, tripod or monopod should be with it always, the quality and flexibility are not the same as the Nikkor 80-400VR, you can find these short brief or review in the Equipments review section.

Thanks for the info I might have to save up for the 80-400 Nikon lens then I might have a Nikon ED 80-200 2.8 for sale in mint condition

The Nikon 80-200 produces excellent images and far lot better with auto focus than the 80-400VR, why should you ditch it, perhaps the limitation of the focal lenght get a TC for it and you'll be surprised.

In my opinion there is not a lot wrong with this lens. However if you can afford and justify the additional expense of the Nikon 80-400VR then I would go down that track. When I bought the Bigma I could not. I also believe that it is dropping in price and is now even more affordable than previously. This shot will give you some idea of the quality of the Bigma.

oneputt... that shot is as sharp as a tack.... nice capture!

That is an excellent moon shot! Very nicely done.

I agree with you on the Bigma. I think it's a great lens, as is the 80-400vr. The Bigma really shines when used on a monopod or tripod. The same is true for the 80-400vr, but it isn't as heavy and the VR works very well, making it a good lens to get decent shots hand held.

The lens is excellent, IMO, especially for being a 10x zoom. It's sharp and relatively fast focus, if you get the HSM version. Mine is in need of repair at the moment, but I was very happy with the shots I got from it before it crashed.
