Looking for a grungy Alleyway in Sydney

Postby Geoff on Thu Jan 28, 2010 3:17 pm

Hey all,
I will be doing a band/cd cover photo shoot in the next few months and am trying to source a good alleyway/tunnel/grungy spot that will appeal for the shoot. It's a hip hop band and their request is for a dingy alleyway. If anyone can think of somewhere (and even has any pics) it'd be most appreciated.

Cheers,

Geoff.

Hi Geoff,

Sounds like a cool project.

There are quite a few in the CBD if you're up for it. A quick walk will find heaps.
One i've noticed that looks pretty good for a shoot is between the state theatre and the gowings building, off market street.

Hope that helps

Thanks David,
I think you'd need to get some type of special permission to shoot in such a (?) prominent spot yes?

Geoff, agree with David - there are quite a few in the CBD. There are some between Kent & Clarence streets (parallel) between Market and Bathurst Streets (I think). There is one (actually a road) that goes from York street, just at the exit of the QVB park - this may give an interest shot as you can have the QVB as your background if you face east). Also, there is one running between York & Clarence streets just south of Margaret (around where the exits from Wynyard are) - the start of the alley/laneway is near Governor's Pleasure, I think :D .

Surely where would be heaps in Freshwater? :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

Newtown has a varying supply of alleyways, but you will not get the highrise buidlings like in the city, plenty of grungy looks and graf, there are also railway under passes etc...

Always a popular place for indie band shoots and stuff...I will try and find some previous images that might show some alleys..

I got an interesting image in a drainage canal in Ultimo many years ago.

And there should be a few - along with lots of steps, if that's desired - in and around The Rocks.
