Or an astute Nikonian who recognises the value of something that is no longer made. This is a made in Japan unit. Arguably different from the current made in China units. Those differences are open to interpretation (especially of their significance to image quality, QC, etc), however it should be noted that one can no longer acquire a made in Japan 50/1.8 today.

huynhie, most people forget the mf lenses, but I think the 1.2 is still made in Japan
