A view of Detroit through the Sigma 18-50

Here are a couple of shots of Detroit, for those that might be curious about the area. I live about 10 miles east of the tallest building. Post processing on both of these shots consisted of resizing, applying an S curve and sharpening.

Kerry - often wondered what Detroit looked like from a new perspective. What one sees on the box is normally the city or downtown and shots like that are always showing the darker side of a city.

I have noticed from pbase that you have quite an arsenal of lenses - both Sigma and Nikon - cheeky question - do you own them

Kerry, that first shot in particular is fantastic, I love the colouring, the dramatic sky and that bird! The other one is good too, but #1 really does it for me.

(Yes guys, I thought it was "sir hc" briefly too, but then realised. mic mic mic, 5 months. Oh dear)

Yes, I own all of the lenses that you'll find listed with my pbase account. It's a rather long story, but the bottom line is that when I started this stuff last year, I had no clue what I would need for lenses to do what I wanted to do. My initial purchases were based on guesswork, which turned out a little short of my ambitions.

Austin, btw is the coolest town in the US that I have visited with the exception of NY, which is an exception anyways. I haven't visited many towns on the east coast, mostly the midwest and west coast. San Diego is great, but I just love Austin and the vibe there. I think that if I were to move anywhere Stateside it would definitely be Austin.

I really like your picture. It seems to be true to Detroit. Both are nice. Which is your fav lens Kerry? I still can't bring myself to spend the money as there are so many choices with so much money to spend.

San Diego was very cool, when I lived there for a while back in 1970. I don't think I'd want to live there now. Detroit isn't my favorite place on the map and isn't a very cool place, compared to most anywhere else I've been, with the exception of El Paso. I've been in many, perhaps most of the major cities in the US, over the past 30 years. Boston was pretty cool, as was Miami and Houston, but I wouldn't want to live in them. Chicago has to be my all time favorite big city. The people there are so cool. I spent 2 weeks there last fall and had a terrific stay.

My favorite lens, without doubt, is the 80-400vr. The versatility of that lens is simply incredible. I'd love to see an f/4, AF-S version. That would be the cat's meow!
