Rel - Thanks for sharing this sad news.

As well as being inspired by John's images (especially some from his 4WD trips) I also had the good fortune to have met John on one of his trips to Sydney. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this time - he'll be missed.

Rel,

This is very sad news indeed. Thank you for posting this for us.

As with Peter, I had the pleasure of meeting him on one one of his trips to Sydney, and he was truly a gentleman as well as a great photographer.

Please let his real family know that we, a part of his greater family, share their sadness at this loss. Our thoughts are with them.

let me just say that I meet oneputt through this forum many years ago........

...... and that John will be sadly missed

Personally I will miss his humor, words of wisdom, and company. With the distance that we lived apart, skype and E Mail filled that distance, and we kept in contact. I managed to visit John quite a few times after I departed QLD and enjoyed his company along with a glass or 2. John was a friend and fellow photographer a true gentleman, and I am sure he touched many members of this forum and others.......

RIP oneputt.......

Likewise - very sad news.

It may be worth, at an appropriate time in the future, either printing this thread or giving his family a link to it, so they can see the impact he had on a group of geographically separate people, united by hobby and passion.

I have really been priviledged to have known John and spent many a night under the stars in some far flung places with him.

Without exeption it was always a pleasurable experience to travel and camp together or to head off on another photoshoot with him.

He was a true gentleman which is why he loved the boys weekends as he didn't have to act quite so "proper" in the absence of the opposite sex.

I can honestly say that I respected John more than any other man on this Earth

It was only a couple of weeks ago when i went up to the Sunny Coast to visit John at home and his pain managment was improving so we arranged to go on a little photo shoot the next weekend ... sadly that was not to be as he went back into hospital not long after.

I went up to visit him in hospital on saturday evening and he looked and sounded exactly like he did when he used to fall asleep in his chair around the campfire ... softly snoring and totally relaxed.

Thats how i will remember him ...

There are only two times i can remember crying ... this is one of them

Very sad and unexpected news. I knew John in much earlier times as a bowhunter and lover of the outdoors. Always a gentleman and scholar. He will truly be missed. I share in everybody's sadness and add my condolences to family and close friends.
Tonight I shall toast a life well spent.

A good bloke, no a great bloke and a great mate. John was always a gentleman and willing to lend a hand at a moments notice.

Despite the accent, I reckon he was a true blue Aussie who knew, loved and was truly at home in the Australian outback.

He loved his off road adventures and photography and was certainly well accomplished in both departments.

John will be sadly missed but certainly not forgotten.

Rest in Peace Mate.

I have compiled and passed on all the comments from this and other forums for John's family. I can pass on to you all that they are overwhelmed by the incredible response from his forum friends.

If I may, I'd like to suggest that the POTW window be used to show some of oneputt's photos over the course of the next week as somewhat of a retrospective of his photos? Might be good for those of us who didn't know him that well, me included, to see his photos.
