ICC V4 color profiles

I have recently ditched Google Chrome (fantastic browser at many levels) after finding out that it's not color managed ("insert nasty swear word here").

It seems that even in Firefox 3.6 one needs to TURN ON color management? Is this correct? It seems that I have done so, with the help of an add on  .

Just to make sure that all is well, I visited
http://www.color.org/version4html.xalter

It would appear that I am not ICC V4 complaint? [All is well for V2 however] Where is the glitch here? [OR is there a glitch?]

I would really appreciate some expert advice on this matter. BTW FF comes out better than Chrome in the displaying the images.

Thanks.

Suren,

have a look here as well:

I am not sure of what problem you are trying to fix, ie what is the reason to be ICC v4 compliant? Are you having colour problems in display, print, both?

I have colour managed displays and printer where I use the ICC paper profiles from the vendor. Safari honours the embedded ICC profiles, probably v2 when browsing the web.

My prints reflect what I see on the screen, so that is what makes me happy :D

cheers,

André

Andre, thanks for your reply.

My problem was that I wasn't sure whether I was seeing the same colors as other people with a calibrated setup. I don't have enough knowledge to tell whether this ICC V4 was relevant. So when I found out my browser (or system or something) wasn't complaint despite calibration, I was a little concerned. It got me thinking, what more do I need to do see accurate colors. Is it too much to ask?

But your explanation makes sense. Maybe I don't need these V4 profiles (which I can't see accurately on my browser anyway)

1. I have switched to firefox and turned on color management.
2. Use the Spyder to calibrate my screen.

I don't have a printer so that's not an immediate issue for me.

Thanks for that link as well. I have got that on my bookmarks as an important reference.

Catch you around sometime.

FYI: I just tried both those web sites from my Mac (running 10.6 Snow Leopard) and running Google Chrome 5.0 and both sites showed that I was fully colour managed (including the ICC version 4 and version 2 profiles ones).
