More than 1,000 photographs from the Polaroid collection are being auctioned at Sotheby's in New York City as part of Polaroid's bankruptcy court order.

The auction includes images by legendary artists and photographers, including Ansel Adams, going back to the 1940s. Some artists are upset that the collection is being auctioned off, believing that they only lent their work to Polaroid.

This is a most interesting article, well worth reading, and represents a sad day in the history of photography, the final days of Polaroid.

It is a sad to hear that they will auction off work that does not belong to Polaroid if it truly is the case that some of it was on loan from the artist.

One thing is for sure. Your average Joe Blow will not be buying these Polaroids. They will be bought by people who REALLY know there worth

I'm surprised its lasted this long, I would have thought that digital was more of a direct replacement to polaroid then negative film.
