Hi there. Just wondering if anyone has a film scanner. I am thinking of beginning to use alot more of my film cameras and would like to know of peoples experiences with them. I noticed ebay has cheap no name ones for about 100 bucks. Does anyone know if its worth it? what image quality is like etc? or would it be better to get the film scanned onto a cd at a professional shop? does anyone know how much this will cost? thanks matt

This topic comes up quite often and so I recommend you do a search on slide scanning.

There are some cheap units available but one of the recommended scanners is the Epson V700 Photo. It is a flatbed scanner but does a great job on film/slides. Being flatbed, it can be used for more than just film.

I have a Kaiserbass slide/film scanner that I bouth from HN for about $130. I found it to be easier to use than my flatbed scanner, which only scans film or printed material. However, you get what you pay for and therefore it could never compete with a professional or more expensive scanner. It does a reasonable job, which can be compared to scanning a printed photograph with a flatbed scanner of the same price, but of course it depends on the quality of the negative.

+1 for the V700...we use them at work and they do very nicely!
