Any lens you want

Ok.. A guy walks in and says you can have any one Nikon lens on the Maxwell site which would it be?

This is quite a different question from the "what is your next purchase" question.... This is driven some what by greed (as in, if it were free why not get the rolls royce over the ford!)

Me: I was quite blown away by the build quality and sharpness of the 28-70/2.8

And while I would be tempted by long glass I just dont think I would use them as much as a premium quality short to normal zoom...

The 28-70 AF-S is brilliant for zoom lens in portraiture and well suited for the wedding photogs.
You can't buy them now new, it seems to me no stock everywhere for the black version, few stock of light grey which you can find around.
Price of it is jumped up from o/s. Perhaps another discontinued product from Nikon.

I think I'd take the 200-400vr and buy a Nikon 1.4x TC. :D

probably 200-400 VR as it's ramge seems so useful, plus slap on a 1.7 t and boy have you got range. If I didn't use it much I'd sell it and pay off my mortgage.

600mm f4 ED etc etc for me. This lens is so hard for me to justify but such a brilliant lens I would love to be able to grab for all sorts of work.

Followed very closely by the 400mm 2.8 AFS

Fozzie,
Have you got the D2x battery charged yet? The 200-400VR looks nice on it. 8)

I'd probably go the 600MM F4. Although the 200-400VR would be nice with TC, you'd lose a few fstops.

Tell me about it Birdie. It looks absolutely sublime. I gazed at it all night...in my sweet dreams.

So seriously, tell me about it.

Me too Chris! 300VR, I see more use of this lens than other 400/ 600mm.

Cleaned all my equipment last night. Packed and ready for departure from Adelaide AP 0900/25-Mar-2005. Two (2) x Nikon EN-EL3 batteries fully charged last night as well. I am ready to go, can't wait :D .

hehe... some serious toys!

I thought about the 600/4 but, while it would be a lot of fun, I just dont think I would use it as much as a wider lens...

yes, straight after the 28-70/2.8 would be the 200-400/4

Scott, I'm with you on the premium wide-medium tele zoom useage logic. While the longer teles are priced out of this world that it would make financial sense to grab one if offerred for free, it seems they are speciality use items that can't be enjoyed everyday on a practical level.

It's a toss up for me between the 17-55 and the 28-70. I long to own a premo quality 2.8 zoom. While I'm spoilt with freedom of access to either or both at any time during work hours, I'm limited to shooting what's within this boring office. ;)

so you're going to have problems when (if) you return to Aus?
:)

"What?! No full range f/2.8 while still being razor sharp?"
