My grandfather recently passed away and left us an oil painting that is supposedly of value. It is probably from the 1800s and probably from europe, neither of which we really know though. It has the initials A.A.G. posted on it. Does anybody have any idea what or who aag stands for?

That would be from the well-known Dutch master Adolphous Alberto Gerlyon; 1626 - 1701.
His paintings are now becoming favoured in art circles and are extremely valuable because they are quite rare.
I suggest you contact Sothebys immediately - you will be quite surprised at their valuation.

Seems a strange first post especially as this is a photography forum! You also need to add a "meaningful" location to your profile before a
mod notices you have not included one.

Hey udashy, shame about the old fart, but the painting sounds like a genuine Gerlyon - I'll give you $500 for it, no worries. Just send me $25 to cover the transfer fees, and the $500 is yours!
Cheers
