Photo essay of the recent student riots in the UK

Postby BullcreekBob on Mon Dec 13, 2010 1:37 am

An incredible photo essay about the recent student riots in London. It is a sad day when governments make education only available to the families of the rich and privileged.

But regardless of the politics, I think this is an amazingly strong photo essay that tells a (sad) tale quite effectively.

It is ashame that not everything in life is free, some people seem to think it should be but someone needs to work to pay for it all. Protesting is a democratic right but the use of violence is not forgiveable. Hopefully they can work out the right balance between what should be free and what should not.

As always its a small minority who make these events violent, very few of these images seem not to show the true protesters but the masked ones out for violence. Its a real shame that protests get out of hand like this and can unfortunately have a very detrimental effect to peoples public opinion towards those who do legitimately protest.

Quite frankly I would out there protesting too if someone wanted to triple fees.

it ain't free? and it never was, 3kGBP per year is a good deal but not free...

I remember the year I went to university fees that year jumped from the standard AUD 2200 to a sliding scale (depending on degree) of $4800 per year.

On the topic of the pictures, they are chosen and taken to be dramatic to show a bloody war between protesters and police, and probably to sell papers etc. Nice pictures but the majority do not really convey to me anything to do with tuition fees :rotfl2:

I do like some of them placards though  :rotfl2:

I love the picture of the injuried cop with the two photographers trying to stick cameras in his face, well done guys hope you got good pay for 'em... :?
