Any good books?Hey all,
Well this is my first post here. I have always been interested in photography, but I never really pursued it. After my last camera, a Nikon Coolpix 5700, died several weeks ago, I decided it was time for me to get a real camera. I could probably count in hundreds the shots I have missed due to the shutter lag of consumer P&S digital cameras. No more! Long story short, I got the D70 last week, with the kit lens, a 4GB microdrive, and I also got the f/1.8 50mm prime lens as well. This is my first SLR. So far I love it. I also got UV filters to protect the lenses, and two spare generic batteries from eBay. I already have a pretty decent tripod. So now I just need to up my skills and learn how to use this beast. I am taking a lot of pictures, and have read through the user manual several times, but I want to learn more. I am wondering if there are any books you guys would recommend for the new photographer. I feel I am beyond the very basics, but still in the beginner stage. So if you guys have any books that you liked (electronic or hard copy), let's make a short list so I can start reading! Thanks Beltbuckle

Thanks birddog I ordered Thom Hogan's book so I am looking forward to it. Hopefully the weather is good this weekend so I can take some pics.
Welcome welcome beltbuckle.
Nice avatar. You'll quickly find that, much like the missed pics your old shutter lag gave you, the microdrive may end up doing the same. They can be notoriously slow. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

Beltbuckle,
Welcome. Please place your location into your profile; you'll be quite surprised at how much more useful this site will become once you do this. yes, you'll find the microdrive will become painfully slow; we have a 2.2G version that rarely gets used because it simply gets in the way of taking photos. Grab a couple of 1G CFs; you'll be surprised at the speed differential. How did the CP5700 die? As to books etc ... please be sure to download our tutorials. I think you'll find them quite helpful too. g.
