Accept it as a new toy with your D70, I have one and not bothering me to look for an aftermarket or a clone unit. Yes, it's not cheap! it's over $150.00 but It's genuine Nikon brand. Birddog114

hehehe!the D70 is and the EH-5 is just a little small portion of the gears which you have Birddog114

Small portion or not, paying a rediculous price for a common item is just silly. Would you want to pay $400 for a 1gb CF card if it had the Nikon brand name? - Nick

pippin88, If no one in this world makes the CF card and only Nikon makes it then we have to buy whatever the price they quoted if you can afford it and need it seriously. The EH-5 is only make by Nikon, and I can't see/ find any other available similar product or a third party product, so we have to live with it. If the meter in your camera failed to work and need to replace, your camera is out of warranty, will you pay Maxwell $770.00 to fix it or not? If a company solely has the product and no one else has, we have to cope with its price tags Why should people pay a camera for $1500.00 and buy a lens for 10K If you don't want to pay the EH-5 for over $150.00, Nikon does not have any suffering if you don't buy it! but someone outhere will buy it and enjoy! Hi pippin88,
have you found an alternative to the Nikon costly power adaptor ? If you do, please let us know ! Cheers and have a happy Easter CD
No, no, sorry. I wasn't saying that I'd found an alternative, or that you shouldn't buy the Nikon one if no other was available. I was just saying that a Nikon branding, and the fact that it's not as much as all the lenses doesn't mean we should pay more if an alternative is available.
I'm sure the specs on the power adaptor are nothing special, but is the connector proprietory? - Nick

Yes, as other said, the voltage in and out of the EH-5 can be matched with other sources but the connector, plug into your D100/ D70 is proprietary, A square plug with 4 small holes. Sames the ones uses for D2h series, price is very steep and stock is not healthy from Maxwell store or somewhere.
This power adapter is not a common item which everyone buy or need, mostly people uses it for shooting inside the studio, can be used for CCD cleaning but how many people want them for CCD cleaning with this EH-5? So if you don't shoot with studio, why should you bother? I also have the Nikon MH-19 Quick Multi charger which I mostly used for charging dual EN-EL3 battery on both AC and Cigarette adapter for in car charging. This is a must need item if you have multiple batteries and want to use anywhere. Last edited by birddog114 on Sun Mar 27, 2005 11:48 am, edited 1 time in total.

I have a power onverter in my car, 300W that is hard wired to my battery and i simply charge my spare while im using the other one
u can pick up a 150w that goes into a cig lighter for around 60 bucks from dick smiths have a look into it
When I had the D1 it was necessary to have the AC unit as the batteries did not last very long. With the advent of the D70 and the superior batteries I feel that it is not necessary to have an AC unit. My 2¢ worth

Can you charge two EN-EL3 battery in the same time? at 30 - 40 min? I know the inverter can be purchased (500W) for $88.00, of course made in China, but hardwire to the car? I'm not interested! cos I also have two power packs at 1200mAH with 2 cigarette lighter socket in each, and it can be charged with solar panel if needed. I can mobilize few days without the need of AC power. Birddog114

yeh it charges them in the same time it would at home, when u go over 150 wat they need to be hard wired but a 150 watt will do fine, i have a 300 watt so i can power a laptop etc and it is handy for camping, can power a small t.v or even boil a jug sandwich toaster etc
and they are pretty cheap its another option anyway
Yes, you're right but it can't replace the use of the EH-5, it can be replaced the MH-19 for multi charger. The EH-5 is another part to use with difference purposes. Birddog114
