This is a thread that has proved successful on another forum I belong to... It might also help us all get to know each other better...

My username actually originates from another net community that I belong to (geocaching)...

When joining that community I was prompted for a user name and had to decide quickly... I wanted something that would be unique, but also express my inner Welshness...

The humble leek is the national vegetable of Wales and is used extensively as a symbol in Welsh Rugby Union...

I will quite readily respond to my net nickname... much to the disgust of my wife

Yes, I have often been asked about the origins of my forum name too.



Greg is actually my given name, or 4/7 of it anyway. Including the "ory" would - according to the usage regime employed by my mother - indicate that I was always in trouble of some sort, and I don't need that.

The B - and this is where it gets more interesting - is the first letter of my surname.

Rather controversially, I have omitted the first letter or any other part of my second given name. I thought this was a bold ploy, but then again, anything goes on the internet.

I love music, Oh yes I do!

I think mine falls into the 'obvious' category.. first initial, last name.

It was my login name from many many years ago, and i've been using it ever since.

There's actually a longish story behind my nick, and it's nothing to do with strange acts in the padock! It's the latest in a line of sheep related nicks I have used online, starting with baaa, going on to sheepish and now sheepie.
Short version: The baaa simply came about on irc when someone asked where I was from, so I changed my nick as a hint. Simple as that.

I've been using Killakoala for about 20 years of BBS's and internetting.

I wanted something original and Australian. I though about Dropbear but that was just too obvious. I toyed with a couple of useless and silly names until i was channel flicking late one night and came across a movie calle 'Attack of the Killer Tomatos'. (A stupid cult movie) I put two and three together and came up with Killer Koala, but shortened it to be slightly more poetic.

Nnnnsic has been my name webname for a while as has Stitch!, but it "Nnnnsic" translates to the following: 4 n's (ic)...
I watch too much CSI and work on my own forensic stories and the name "forensic" got a bit too... normal for me.

sirhc55 - awhile back I wanted to join something or other and wanted chris555 as I used this on a lot of sites - it had already gone so I reversed my name and hence sirhc55 which I now use on quite a few sites including ebay.

My user name is my fire brigade nick name.There was 2 of us started on the same day on the same watch so to avoid confusion I was called spook and my mate was called casper!

Another one that lacks excitement here. Jordanp is my abbreviation of Jordan Photography - an old business that is currently being revived. Jordan is also the name of my son.

"Manta" comes from my days as a scuba divemaster. Not only is the Manta Ray one of my favourite marine animals but it was also the nickname given to me by a group of dive students because of my incessant hovering above and behind them, in their blindspot. I liked to mess with their minds...

It's also my Geocaching handle - the game where Leek and I first crossed paths. PS - I always thought Leigh's moniker was pretty cool, though I don't share his, or anyone's, enthusiasm for the CSI TV franchise. Forensic results back that quickly? Oh puh-lease!!

I used to use mattco6974 here, but decided to personalise it a couple of months back to MattC. matt = first name, co = first part of last name, the numbers are meaningless. MattC is easy enough to work out.
Normally I use the first part of the email address of whichever spam account that I am using for registration. This is only the second time that I have used user name/email address in a forum as it is my private email. The first time I used it, it quickly found its way onto a spam list. A couple of polite emails explaining that I do not wish to be part of this to the owners of the websites to which the emails directed me (legit businesses with street addresses) had the problem sorted - they actually responded. Nothing since. Lucky? I think so.

Most other internet places I've joined I've had to come up with unique names as most of the common ones had long been taken. Since I was the second menber after Glen to join this forum I could pick whatever I wanted so I picked PhillipB for obvious reasons. Sad but true.

Marcus as in the latin for...um...Marcus.

Mine is pretty humdrum. There are a lot of Mike's around and it is difficult to get a nick starting with it, so I use the Welsh version and the initial of my last name.

Nikkofan - well, fairly self-explanatory, isn't it? Aha, well, yes & no.

"Nikko" - 2 things: (a) Nikkor lenses (yes, I know, it's pathetic) and (b) my (late) Dad's nickname.

so "Nikkofan" - a tribute to Nikkor lenses (sometimes a trifle misguided loyalty, I fear) and to a thoroughly decent, kind and gentle man who was the best father that anyone could hope for.

Not a very exciting explanation, I'm afraid, but there it is. In case anyone of you thought, like my husband did, that I had misspelled "Nikon" with the 2 k's in "Nikko", I'm pleased to say that (in this case) it is not a case of having a Blonde Day!

Birddog114 was my first callsign back in the year 1969 once I was a FAC of VNAF, my other callsign was Jupiter28 once I flew with the 524th Attack Squadron on the A-37B and Snake32 was my callsign on the Huey UH-1B gunship.

BBJ=Big Bad John was the nick name given to me many years ago when i was chairman for a radio station and i had a lunchtime show every day. I was not afraid to take on issues within the community and made it well know through my show on my thoughts and hence the name BigBadJohn came about. My other nick name is 1 i had in my cb radio days and i was 8 years old when i started with and was called LittleJohn so i still get called that from people who know me from back then, and i am not little. LOL

Leigh is in fact my genuine middle name - although I think people on the forum initially thought I was a bloke because of that name (?) - and a name that I have at times considered I might have preferred to my actual name Rebecca.

The 999 is simply because when you are doing emails/usernames etc you nearly always have to add numbers and 999 is easy to remember - and nothing to do with the fact it is 666 turned upside down

Boxerboy - not for my preference in underwear or a bent for pugilistic endeavours but rather my liking for all things Subaru and in particular their 'boxer' engines.

I find that odd because most people usually think that I'm a girl as "Leigh" is more of a girl's name.

Murf comes from Murphy amd 59 the year I was born very original.

I am a big car enthuasist. I used to like these wheels called Neeper Synchros. Neeper is a brand name of wheels for cars. They are not so popular anymore, but used to be in the 90's. I started using the name, because it was always available on every website I would join.

I have a radio next to the computer, and when I joined the forum, my total lack of imagination stopped me from being able to invent a nickname. I looked around for inspiration, and there it was, written on the radio - "digitor".

My Dad taught me how to take pictures, develop and enlarge black and white film when I was about 12 years old. My avatar is a self portrait I took around the time I was in college.

I'll expand a little and tell you more about me. I'm a second generation Southern Californian and my (2nd) wife is a Northern Californian from San Mateo (just a few miles from San Francisco). I have a 28 year old daugther, Laura (http://www.charcoaldesigns.com) and I also had a son who died at age 24 about 6 years ago.

Mine is also simple: g for Gerard and the rest is family name.

Well Steve - I had absolutely no idea what the SoCal was! I also thought that it was a recent self portrait so it is interesting to learn more about you.

My name and avatar are obvious I think. I quite like Marvin the Martian and the picture is of a large Marvin that a friend gave me for my birthday a couple of years ago (it is, however, the only Marvin the Martian that I own as I'm not that into him!).
