Inexpensive Studio Lighting - OpinionsHi folks,
I'm looking to buy some inexpensive studio gear. Mainly it will be for single subject shots, but possibly for small groups also. I'm looking at this from Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250769465939&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT#ht_1768wt_1139 Has anyone purchased similar or does anyone have an opinion? Thanks for any help. 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

Re: Inexpensive Studio Lighting - Opinions
I got the golden eagle kit via poon in 2009 (I think?) and they are going ok. They look almost identical to these apart from the fact that these are upgraded with a digital readout at the back. They are plastic with a mount that seems universal. The lights don't have a 'bare bulb' type of support as the light is recessed. So you might get a more directed softbox effect. One of my lights smoke when I use the modelling light so I haven't used it in a while. They are more than enough for the small non-pro type of applications. The color may or maynot be absolutely consistent so perhaps not the best for color critical work. Mine has a purple like cast which is easily removed in post. The sync speed is way too long for outdoor application. They are more than powerful for studio lights. Bear in mind that they are likely 300W each rather than 900w each. Lastly you need to think about whether you want to add more modifiers. Beauty dish etc may not be compatible. Modelling bulbs may be hard to find. I don't think you can replace the flash tube though like in pro versions. hth.
Re: Inexpensive Studio Lighting - Opinionsokay, studio setup purchased.
I have 3x 300W lights, 2x softboxes, 3x umbrellas, barn doors, gels, white & black muslins and background stand and other assorted bits and bobs. I also have a spare room to set it all up in. Now to find someone to shoot. (self portraits are likely). 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc
