Interesting interview with David Bailey

Postby radar on Tue Apr 05, 2011 5:07 pm

Hi,

for an interesting interview with photographer David Bailey, see the SMH here.

David Bailey's website is here.

A quote I liked from the article
talking about photography wrote:AGD: Which baffles me, because I think photography is an art -

DB: So do I. Well, it's not an art. There's that cliche that my old mate Duffy used to use: photography and painting aren't art. It depends on whether the person doing it is an artist.
Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. Ansel Adams

About 12 years ago I was in Scotland for work and as I wandered down a street in Edinburgh, I asked a man to take my photo, as I was alone. He asked me 'Do you know who I am?' (in a tone that suggested I should know!!) turns out the man was David Bailey.. so I now have a David Bailey portrait at home!! Wasn't too happy though.... it was crooked! :-)
Cheers

Maybe you should post him that photo (with the crooked horizon) to remind him that he deliberately took a poor shot of a tourist.
