50mm 1.8 problem

Postby atencati on Thu Mar 24, 2005 5:22 pm

Has anyone had a problem with the aperture ring on the 50mm 1.8 not lining up in the right position. The entire aperture ring is off by about 45 degrees.....everything still works fine, but it seems a bit odd

Andy,
The apeture ring on the 50/1.8 is normal like you stated, cos its construction is not well built like the 50/1.4 and it degraded after time in use.
IMHO, it's a "low consumer grade" lens and with its low value in the market. I won't worry about it much.

Well, the lens is only about a week old, and the aperture numbers didn't line up with anything, they were on the bottom of the lens by the serial #. However, I gave i a good hard twist and it snapped into place. All seems to work now.......we'll see

Strange.... Your lens should not be able to do that. It sounds like the aperature ring has passed its stops. Damaged? I hope not.

Here is a pic of a 50/1.8 locked at f22.

Cheers

Matt PS I went and cleaned the lens after seeing this pic. It lives on my desk (as a paperweight??!!) since replacing it with a 50/1.4, so tends to get a bit grotty.

Nice try Hardboiled. I am yet to decide what to do with it. I have been tempted to pass it on to a good home but I can occasionally see a use for it. We'll see.

Cheers
