I Bought a Nikon D300 in 2008 and did'nt use it much because the pics wer'nt very good and I did'nt have the time to read the book to work out what I was doing wrong.

I picked it up again and realised that there was actually something wrong with it but by now it's way out of warranty.

Has any one got a good repairer they recommend?

Welcome. Before concluding there is something wrong with it, can you describe the problems you are seeing?

If they are evident in the photos, please post examples. There are many leaned people on this forum. There is also me.

It's surprising that such a well-regarded camera should have serious issues early in its life, but it does happen.

In my opinion, you would be silly not to take it to a Nikon authorised repairer, and make sure that you explain the full story. If the fault has been around for a while as you claim, Nikon may feel like they should give some extra assistance.

Thanks Reschsmooth Its an exposure problem I think. Some one told me it sounded like bracketing and to reset the camera. I have reset the camera lots of times and it dose'nt make any difference. I will look for the sample pics I took so I can post them here.

I was given the above address but when I googled them I came to this forum via remarks about the company and they were very negative. I am a member or a 4WD forum and they have helped me heaps so I thought I would join your forum and find out what exprience other people had had.

Exposure problems can also be caused by the lens. There are a couple of lenses that are known to cause under or over exposure.

Really? I did a forum search for them and other than a comment about the guy's English all was good.

The Lens is something no one has mentioned..( I was sold this camera so I could use my old lens!) it's a AF NIKKOR 28-85mm 1:3.5-4.5

Of course you can use your old lenses. I use my Nikkor 60mm f/2.8D (bought 1996) on my D300 more than any other lens and it works perfectly.

My point was that some lenses for some reason can cause exposure issues. I have a Tokina 12-24mm lens that always results in overexposure by up to 1/stop. I know Peter (Stubbsy) has a lens that causes exposure issues with his D700. Don't rule out the lens if you are having problems with exposure. Also make sure you are using the camera correctly.

It's very difficult to determine a problem, and its source, without looking at sample images.

We have members here with vast experience in all avenues of photography, and who are well qualified to assist you in diagnosing the issues that you're seeing. Once you can post some samples, of course.

How many lenses do you have?

As Andrew has mentioned, there should be few issues experienced in using legacy glass, but you do need to ensure that you're using it correctly. I have lots of older glass that's used on my D300, and experience no problems at all.

What (specific) exposure issues are you experiencing, and under what shooting conditions?

Again, sample images will tell us heaps.

I have 15 photos taken one after the other, to show my problem and have down sized them to between 80 and 96kb

And when you post the images, make sure they still have Exif information and spell out exactly what settings you used.

If you haven't read the instruction manual then it could be something simple like spot metering instead of matrix...or some exposure compensation dialled in. Do you look at the histogram?? Is it basically central for an average daylight scene.?

If you need the easiest way to post images....

If you have facebook, upload them into a private album ( lock out everyone - not that this step matters, just make sure it's uploaded)

Once it's uploaded, right click on the image and go to "Copy Image URL"

Then.... when you're on this forum making a comment, you can press the "Img" button, and between the

[img]this%20space%20here[/img]


place that URL. and you're done. =D
