I had this idea given to me by a former member, and thought I would share it.

It was suggested that many of the keyboard shortcuts for lightroom could be programmed into a good quality gaming mouse, meaning that having to use both the keyboard and mouse for basic edits in lightroom could be sped up.

So, I thought, why not? I purchased a logitech G700 mouse, 13 buttons of programmable goodness.

I have programmed the mouse to allow me to flag/unflag images, delete images, set ratings, undo/redo and will continue to experiment with different settings.

Having recently had to rate, select and edit 7500 images for a single event, even saving 10 seconds per image is a massive saving of time.

If it's something that you haven't considered before, maybe give it some thought. If it's something you have thought about and weren't too sure, I'd advise you to give it a shot. Less time in front of the computer screen is something we could all do with!

That is a very good idea! Thanks for sharing! I dont use Lightroom but plenty of others do and i am sure that someone else will benefit from this great tip

No affiliation, just saw a link elsewhere and ordered a wireless presentation remote & Harmony 1 remote control.

Now wondering if I should buy a mouse too, for the one day I move across to LR.

No idea when, as I'm still doign work tax research for next week at 1.37am on a Monday morning.

Awesome repurposing of the gaming gear - you could go even further where applicable and have assigned macro (keyset strings) for certain multi-step processes

Flawless so far. It comes with an eneloop battery and a usb charging cord. I read a few mixed reviews, but seriously, so far i havent found anything wrong with it. Suits me down to the ground

I guess I'm not using it for gaming, so perhaps thats an issue for some?

I was going to get one (gaming mouse) until I read about the poor support for Mac (i.e. no support so you have to configure it on Windows) and it takes up a USB slot. My MacBook Pro only has 2 USB ports and I don't want to lose one for the mouse. I currently use a BlueTooth mouse and keyboard. I guess I could use a USB hub but I have found them to be a bit iffy at times.

THey can be iffy if they are not powered. An unpowered hub relies on the power from upstream. If it is a little low powered ( like most notebooks!) then the hub will have problems. I haven't had any issues with the powered hubs I use these days.

I have only ever used powered hubs. The worst problem was a lot of image files being corrupted on an external hard disk. Fortunately, I had independent backup of the image files.

mate, you are a champ. the mouse is superb, wireless works flawlessly and being able to recharge is a bonus. i cant believe id ever think a mouse was excessively or noticeabley "comfortable" but it is amazing how much of a difference it makes over what i thought was already an excellent ergo mouse. the feel and precision of this thing is just brilliant, fits my hand like a glove. i highly recommend it.

i do have a bit of a tech issue though, i cant get the pointer to move really fast across the screen. it takes alot of movement to get it from one side of the screen to the other. whats up with that ? i think i have it on the fastest settings but that dpi menu thing is screwing with my head...any recommendations ?

i also bought a g19 keyboard and i LOVE IT. the little LCD is badass, the shortcut keys are awesome and it lights up !! lol seriously though, another highly recommended piece of kit.

Usually something to do with acceleration settings.

On the same vein, always check logitech aus in ebay. Their prices are crazy and they are the same distributor with warranty etc.

If anyone is interested in even more control over Lightroom, you may like to check out Paddy for Lightroom or Knobroom, they allow a midi controller to control parts of lightroom, so you can get a basic MIDI mixer controller, with sliders and rotary knobs and assign them to your commonly used Lightroom sliders.

I tried using this setup a while ago with an M-Audio controller but found it a bit too twitchy, the behringer controllers that Paddy seems to be designed for especially (although it can be used for any) may work better.
