Jumped into Canvas Prints...Okay, so I decided that following my successful world tour of the United States, I needed to get some prints.
I wanted canvas, but couldn't afford the sizes I wanted. However, I recently found the website http://www.Cheapcanvasprints.com.au and their prices were pretty speccy, so I thought, why not. Today I ordered these images as 140cm x 95cm prints: This is a set of pay binoculars on Jacksonville Pier, Florida. I really like the image, the detail in the design of the binos is lovely. And this one: This image really expresses the back streets of New Orleans to me. It was one street back from Frenchman street, and just cried out to have it's picture taken. I could have spent weeks in New Orleans, photographing it's people and buildings. SO, the grand total for those two MASSIVE prints was $361. Delivered. What do I expect? I expect the frames to be solid, the canvas to be tight, and the brightness/contrast to be close to what I see on my screen. I'll let you know how they go. 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

Re: Jumped into Canvas Prints...Great image of the N'Awlins doorways. Isn't it the most amazing city?
Was that on the western side of Esplanade St, or back in the quarter? It looks like it may be in the quarter, but your description suggests otherwise ... And I'll be interested to hear how these prints turn out. g.

Re: Jumped into Canvas Prints...So have they arrived yet?
I'm interested in getting a canvas or two, and as digital photography is yet to arrive in Tassie I have to rely on those from the big desolate island Old D200+extras

Re: Jumped into Canvas Prints...Okaaaaaaaaay........
I forgot to update this thread with how the prints turned out, thanks to Tommyg for the reminder I was very happy with them, they were massive! Like, really big! If you have ever wondered how big 142cm wide print was on your wall, and you measured it with a tape measure.... double it! They look massive, big enough to crush a small child if they fell off the wall! The frames are solid, and the canvas pulled nice and tight. Image quality was good also, with the colours/tones pretty much what I expected them to be working from my laptop monitor. Something to take into consideration if you are getting massive prints done, you really need to pixel peep your image. When single pixels end up the size of a pygmies head, errors show up.... Not that it occurred to me of course...... That single blue pixel is MEANT to be there.... All in all I was very happy. So happy in fact I've sold a few prints that I used the same printer for. The only beef I had with one was that I hung it over a log fire in winter, and the when the room got really hot, the canvas expanded, and 'hung' very slightly from the frame. Thats only on the massive prints though, and I imagine that it's more to do with the large amount of canvas than anything. Once the room returned to normal temperatures, i.e. not as hot as the surface of the sun, the canvas returned to it's original location. All in all I would say go for it! 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

Re: Jumped into Canvas Prints...Thanks for reporting back and glad to hear that everything went well.
I reckon the canvas market is really competitive currently and the prices that these guys offer are just ok. Generally speaking, I feel that they've marked it up and now marked it down so that the prices look amazing but are quite regular at other stores without discounts.
Bah get that colored pencil out and photoshop it out....
