Nikon D70s

8MP Sony CCD, ISO100-800 expandable up to ISO1600, same NR design as the D2X, viewfinder 95%, 0.9x, 4fps, JPEG buffer 48, NEF buffer not sure ... will announce next month, ship in July/August, price will be the same as D70 was introduced.

Birddog, you are ever vigilant. The uni club might be wrong (though from a marketing viewpoint I would think they would be right) as the specs at the back of the manual say 6.1mp.

That what I've been told in early March as well! 8MP and now seen it with 6.1MP on the back of its manual. Dunno!

Birddog maybe they are playing games with us  Maybe as sirhc55 said, it is all a big PR con job about the manuals

The Nikon marketing people are more devious than politicians, leaking here, teasing there, getting a buzz happening. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they let various specs out just to increase the interest.

Glen,

I'm sure I'll have one for you to open and take it out the box same as shooting test :D once it's in the market, and we are among the first people in Australia to have the D70s & D50 same as the previoulsy D2x.

Now we just wait!

Well, what's to say this mob is right?

Their site doesn't list any more info other than that and it certainly doesn't list where it came from.

Birddog, when I posted the manuals late last night, I was almost going to post that the manuals were for you. Wouldn't have surprised me for you to already have one of each

US$1080.00 for the new D70s or AU$2350.00 for the d70s + kit lens at RRP.

And perhaps it'll be the first prize of the BIG CHALLENGE for the August Anniversary Meet.
And from there you'll see lot of "S" around and at other meets.

Birddog, if the specs are correct, it makes the D70 you are selling now look very good value

The leaked manual suggests pretty much SFA difference to the current S-less D70.

Nikon's lineup still has a perceived hole in the middle. If the D70S replaces the current D70 at its price point (which going by current evidence* suggests it will), and the D50 covers the entry level DSLR market, it's still quite a jump from D70S to D2Hs/D2X. There's no "prosumer" model (gotta cater to the marketing guys).

*The D70 is no longer in production, all stocks will be what remains in suppliers' pipelines. So if you're gunna buy one, do it soon while the rebate's still active. Otherwise, it's effective $200 more for the "new" D70S.

I guess the D200 would have to be in the pipeline.

Nikon can't be THAT stupid.

Okay... yes they can...

Perhaps a D100s instead of D200  Need the new engine not the chassis. Do you think Nikon will have it? yes, I can say and confirmed.

Read through the specs of the D70s and they are identical to the D70

EN-EL3A, 1500 mAh battery, with corresponding MH-18A charger. :) Weighs 5 grams more, and it seems they've fixed the medium size Jpeg processing issue - not that it'll affect many people, since (I'm guessing) nearly everyone shoots raw.

I think you hit it on the head. They add an "S" to the model number and watch sales soar as the DPreview mob dump the D70's for a D70s. Only difference is the apostrephe.

Yes I would agree (ahem) 'cough' no, I mean (cough cough), "no there IS an end in sight Birdie, just two more lenses and a portable storage device and I'm officially done with spending on photography! Anything more would be overdoing it! I have plenty as it is." (ahem) "I'll be off of the site shortly honey!"
