Does anyone here use Google+?

I found it amazing for following photographers as it has awesome photo related features, so photography based people are quite active on there.

yeah i am there, however its is certainly in its infancy i reckon, there is just a flood of users and images atm imo. when it dies down a bit and people settle into a routine I think it could be good... and a good alternative to FB

Agreed.
I've only followed people who are active posters.
Trey Ratcliff is very active on there. He's got awesome HDR work.
Jeremy Cowart is incredible too.

Thank you for that. I had no idea of Google+. I've just
visited the site and like Facebook I found frustrating
the lack of explanations, guidelines, and like. Perhaps
I'm becoming a cranky old fellow expecting the same
kind of answers from others and they expect from me.

I gave up on it as it seemed totally lame, and without any merit or benefit for me. Much of the content was cross-posted from Twitter - where I already have a presence - or Facebook.

In fact, it struck me as a me-too version of Facebook, which I abhor. More on that on tonight's Gadget Grill, btw, following a discussion at an IT security lunch earlier in the week.

Basically, it was like turning up at a party, early, but finding that nobody else was coming.

FWIW, has anybody considered what their relationship is with sites like Google and Facebook? For those who think you're client of their's think again. You're their product.

Just remember that no matter what, anything that you put out on those sites - anywhere on the internet, in fact - should never be considered to be private. If you don't want others to see it, do not push it into these sites.

Each to their own.
Now I've found the people I want to follow I find it really good.
Many pro photographers on there have given up on Twitter and aren't far off doing the same with Facebook.

ha, I did the same with FB and twitter Why would you swap when you have a vested interest in FB and twitter?, it could well dilute your online presence. I think there a couple of different types of people who join g+ (from my short time and imo) those who are not on FB, those who see it as another avenue to push their shit, those who see the photographic benefits and teh curious ones testign teh water.

yes. and as long as you are aware of where you sit and have more than two brain cells to make educated decisions for yourself then you should be ok.

to be honest that does not really help anyone looking at g+. 'these sites' encompass everything including forums like this.

What shits me about g+ (prolly not isolated to g+ either) is the way some well known people generate followers in a viral way using competitions and giveways.

Well, i have to say the Dalai Lama is probably the only dude I am following that I am interested in seeing what he (or his PA) has to say. Some great photographers on there but it really feels like a info-mercial.

I've had a look around Google+ (in it's early days) and I think it's still well in it's infancy yet.
It will be interesting to see how they incorporate Google+ into future Android OS releases.

Not sure if Google+ will ever be able to match FaceBook's popularity, but that would be like someone coming along to try and rival the likes of Microsoft and Apple. They are already leaders in their field with so many achievements so it's hard to compare anyone to them....but it is good to have competition (no matter how little the competition is)!
At present it's about 800 million FaceBook users vs about 20 million Google+ users...so there's still a bit of catching up to do.
But I have to admit, I am a Google fan (I love iGoogle), so I hope they do well...but for now I don't think FaceBook has anything to worry about.
