Just happened to tune into eBay this morning and picked up a mint Nikon F4s for $223 - I am so looking forward to a little film work in the near future

Nice. I picked up a Nikon FE yesterday with 50mm. Ordered some Ilford B&W also...

Old school photography!

Sometimes it is great to go back to your roots, and I don’t mean old girlfriends

As a newly single man, I can do these things.....

Just bid on a Canon AE-1.

Will give me a collection of 70's SLRs, with the Nikon FE, Pentax Asahi & Olympus OM-1. (all with 50mm lenses).

They have a look to them the older cameras that I like. Nothing like the 1950's cameras though, all steel and leather, but nice none the less.

As mentioned on the other thread, I picked up a waist level finder for the F. The irony is that I mentioned to Alicia on Tuesday that I wouldn't mind getting one but they are typically north of $150. Looked on eBay and got the first one I saw for $65 delivered from the US. Can't wait. Will also start dragging the Bronica around.

I love digital but unlike film there is no challenge. The excitement of developing the film to see what you have far exceeds the spontaneity of digital.

Good luck on the Canon Allen, and a great price Patrick

Glad to hear that there will be some more activity in the "film" section of this forum!

Concerning the Qantas chappie, that's not funny chaps. I'm stuck in Noo Zooland ATM. Thankfully I was fortunate & somehow got moved to the head of the queue and am on a flight to Sydney later today. Not sure if I will make the Coffs connection but we'll cross that (air)bridge when we come to it.

Looking forward to seeing some digital scans of these newfangley acquired photographic thingos. Filum you said?

In actual fact Suren, the QF club in Awkland in pretty good. The tucker here is way above what we get at Sydney airport, so I'm slumming it at present. :D

I'm very fortunate today. I'm on the plane for Sydney and although the plane is chock full, I have a spare seat next to me. So far so good. :D

However, there is a family just in front of me with 2 kids who are already going berserk, and we haven't even taken off yet! :(

Back on subject

Arrived yesterday (Wednesday) - needs a clean but this camera is 98% mint and after a few checks I am very happy with my $222 purchase of THE Nikon classic.

Chris,

Very bloody nice.

While I know it's more modern - and perhaps that's a part of my question - would you not have preferred a F3, F2, or just a F ?

I guess I'm thinking along the lines of the classic '70s and early '80s bodies too; Leigh loves his A1, and I think that there's something very special about the cameras from that period, and I suspect that it's something that we will never see again.

Patrick, that's tantamount to stealing the WLF; well done.

Slightly off topic - do we need to organise a filum day?

Many years ago I had the F2 with the photomic head, missed out on the F3 and could not miss out on this absolute bargain and classic.

You better put something under that table leg, otherwise the precious camera will slide off the table :rotfl2:

But yes, bloody nice. Are you going to use it for B/W (and home developing) exclusively, or are you planning on doing chromes as well? If so, do you know of any decent and affordable labs?

Cheers
Steffen.

Not sure at the present time Steffen as it has been a few years since I was into film. I will see what is available in the way of chrome processors.

Thanks! I'm only asking because I'm finally about to embark on my great slide digitising project. I'm hearing that the 40mm DX Micro is great at repro work and I've got the ES-1 slide copy adapter on order. When I'm through with my thousands of slides and it worked well I may just go out and shoot some more, for nostalgia's sake. But I'm guessing it's going to be too expensive and in the end not worth it.

Cheers
Steffen.

Thanks Patrick, seems like prices have gone up a bit but not as much as I assumed.

That sounds like a great idea. Perhaps a romp around the Rocks followed by a meal at the Lord Nelson?

Well, to further derail Chris' thread, I received my finder today - now I can go completely old school with no battery usage required on my F!
